The early Christians ALL drank wine EVERY SUNDAY. I know some have claimed that it was in some way non-alcoholic, but that is certainly not backed up by scripture or documents from the time. Instead, Paul chastised some Christians for their over indulgence at their worship assembly.

1Corinthians 11:20 "So then, when you come together, it is not the Lord’s Supper you eat, 21 for when you are eating, some of you go ahead with your own private suppers. As a result, one person remains hungry and another gets drunk."

The clear indication is that the "wine" of the communion was alcohol containing wine. Paul didn't tell them that they were using the wrong "wine," but that they should consider everyone's feelings...

1Co 11:33 So then, my brothers and sisters, when you gather to eat, you should all eat together. 34 Those who are hungry should eat something at home, so that when you meet together it may not result in judgment.
And when I come I will give further directions.

Drunkenness is sinful, but alcohol IN MODERATION is not.

Having a drink of wine once in awhile..., on occasions for celebration as I can see from the Bible.
I know there is controversy regarding IF the wine Jesus made for the wedding was fermented or not, but I don't think that is the issue. It is like Paul said in 1 Cor.6: 12- 15; we are NOT to be brought under the power of anything or anyone as for controling us. I can tell you from experience.., generational experience that church, devotion and/or spirituality will NOT keep you from coming under the power of alcohol IF you drink it regularly. If you drink more than one drink, one beer, one glass of wine, one dinner drink a week, you probably DO or WILL have a problem with it's bondage now or later. If it's not a problem then why risk it becoming one? If 'drinking alcoholic beverages' isn't an issue then why defend it? Drink grape juice or seltzer water or Iced tea or cola.
Yes, we are not to be "drunk with wine", so why be NEARLY DRUNK? Playing with fire in this culture is planning to get burned.
All people who declare they can "drink in moderation" don't know where is the line. I lived with a man who was an alcoholic for 12 years. He never missed a day of work, he never had a DUI, he never stumbled when he walked, he never 'appeared' to be intoxicated, but he couldn't go out to eat without a drink, he couldln't talk without a drink, he couldn't loosen up for fun without a drink, he couldn't dance with me without a drink.., HE decided he was an alcoholic and he was right. It was his friend and companion and strength and courage and relaxer. He couldn't ever have just ONE, and he secretly drank more than I knew. He admitted he was an alcoholic, he got a sponsor from AA, he worked the 12-steps of AA, he repented & re-committed his life to Jesus Christ, he cannot have a social drink and he hasn't now in over 15 years. Beware of going down a road that ends in destruction to yourself.

Only if you belong to a group who claims it is a sin. I personally don't believe it to be a sin and I am a Christian. Many Churches use real wine for communion on Sunday, so there you go. Its only sin when it causes us to lose our sense of good conduct, you know act like an idiot.

You are kidding. Of course not.
Jesus drank wine.
Where did you get that misconception? There is nothing in the Bible against drinking wine.

I dont know why Christians think drinking wine is wrong. Jesus turned the water into what??? WINE There is also a verse in the bible that says Be ye not DRUNK on the vine. So drinking in moderation is ok just dont get drunk all the time.

No. I drank wine on Sunday, too, and I did it during Communion. There is no Biblical prohibition against drinking wine, but only against outright drunkenness.

In and of itself, drinking wine is not a sin.

Colossians 2:16
Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days:

BUT...

It was only a sin if it came from a box or a jug. Then again drinking that stuff is always a sin as far as I am concerned.
