Normal hiccups can be cured by holding one's breath in order to interrupt the cycle of hiccups (as one other answer said) from my personal experience, although such resolutions are reputedly unscientific.
Now, if this doesn't work, it is also possible you have chronic hiccups. This can be caused by a recent spat of frequent acid reflux. I once had this very uncomfortable malady, and it was rectified by taking antacids like tums over a few hours.
Chronic hiccups can be symptomatic of something more serious, so it really depends on what the root cause was. In my case, I remembered having bad reflux preceding the chronic hiccups so I was able to treat myself accordingly.
Good luck.
