well i'm competetive in sparring and i like to practice outside, well i learned you prolly should no do it in a public place (like a park) i was sparring my brother without gear at a park and we do full contact, well he grabbed my leg and tripped me and started kicking me on the ground and a security guard ran over and tackled him (im serious!)

we explained that we were training, and it was pretty embarrasing, lol apparently! im not going to sparr at the park agian unless im wearing gear so people dont think its a real fight.

so do you guys train in public areas?

no i do not do it for the attention at all, i just feel confined on the mats, indoors sometimes, i just wanted a change of scenery ^^ i try to only go to the park when there are VERY few people there. i just thought i was a funny story that should be shared ^_^;

Yeah, spar in the park, full contact, get some priceless looks from some people

I remember sparing one time when some primary school childeren were playing soccer or something and we got quite a crowd, probably not a good idea to start sparing in front of a night club or police station though, just some thoughts

Sparing is fine, my friends dont train the same style as me so we just meet up, go for a run and do some exercises and then spar, you dont always have access to the dojo so the park is the next best thing

Ummm.....

I don't really do that ..... sober.

I don't really get a lot for training in public areas, it doesn't really grant me anything that training in a dojo or secluded area doesn't, aside from extra and unwanted attention.

But I admittedly am sort of predjudiced about certain things, like people who do Kata, or play guitar in the park (I feel they do it for attention).

With the exception of some Tai Chi (who feel strongly in practicing in nature) or a few other things, any one out doing stuff in a public area is just trying to show off.

I readily admit that is probably not true, and is just my own crazy predjudiced idea about things.

I get enough "Public attention" when I fight in the ring, I don't really need any more. But admittedly I am weird, I also don't wear TapOut shirts, or Full Contact Fighter gear or anything like that anywhere aside from training.

But that is just me.

I would think that yes, doing full contact sparring in a public park would illicit a fair amount of attention, perhaps that is what you want, or maybe you are just having fun.

Either way, probably a bad idea as with gear or not, it will garner you unwarranted attention.

my friends and i used to spar in public like the park and stuff but usually someone thinks we are fighting and they call the cops even with sparring gear on i guess a bunch of minorities sparring each other looks suspicious lol

so we usually spar in a gym or at some1 house

"I don't really do that ..... sober"

that pretty much sums it up for me too.

Except of course the days when I was training sword and we were in an open area where you wouldn't be stopped or could look like theatre actors or something. Although only a retard would mistake a hockey helmet for a "traditional" peice of armor.

you call it sparring in public-i call it showing off!!-by all means practice poomsae/kata etc in public-a change of enviroment can work wonders. but in sparring this should be left in the training hall for a number of reasons- in the training hall if you get hurt-it's all part of the journey-but in a public area it's assault. you are only insured in the training hall. and as the security guard demonstrated what if someone gets all heroic and has a go-how are you going to stop him/her if it gets heavy??-save the sparring for the training enviroment!!.............."i'm a crotchety old cuss" :D:D LOL love it!!.

I did a choreographed fight on a stage and my partner botched one kick (mostly my fault) which unchoreographed it and give me a shiner, does that count?

No, I'd rather do it where people aren't watching. I wouldn't like all the attension.
