My son is in Iraq and he is not receiving his mail. All items we sent to him have been returned to us. He is in FOB Warhorse. The US post office as well as the Sgt. at JFK airport and a Captain with the 1-12 have no answers. My son has also been stonewalled by red tape on his end. I want an official inquery into the matter so my son can receive items from home.

You must start low before you take it to a Congressman. There could be a simple explanation on the reason why his mail is being returned (most likely it is). If we are talking about candy and cookies or other simple items that are not contraband there is no reason why it would be returned other than he being at a different location or the address is wrong. Are you able to contact him? If not contact the Red Cross have the following information:

Full Name
Rank/Rating
Branch of Service
Social Security Number
Military Address
Information about the deployed unit and the home base unit (for deployed service members only)

To find the phone number at your location follow my second link.

This is a simple address and the way they should look:

Joe Private (no rank)
CJTF-99, HHC
FOB Anywhere, AF
APO, AE 09999

You can contact a chaplain at a nearby military base. They can help you in this matter as well. If your son is just forward depoloyed from a base stateside, then contact his base, and ask for his First Sergeant, or acting First Sergeant. If that person doesn't give you results, contact the base Sergeant Major or even the commander of that base and let either of them know who you talked to on their base. If they still don't give you answers, keep calling. The higher ups really hate it when parents call them complaining about stuff, when the other people under their command is supposed to be taking care of their troops.
If that doesn't work, contact the Sergeant Major of the Army, actually, you could start there first, he will point you in the right direction, if not take up the matter himself.

Before you do any of this, make sure you have your sons address correct. Leave off any rank, and make sure you have it sent to the right place. If its something as simple as that, then you might look bad in their eyes.

Also, your son should have an AKO account set up, it should be his first name dot his last name @army.mil. I am not 100% on that, but you might be able to look it up. But you can still e-mail him that way. It might take him a while to reply, but at least he could reply.

I wish you the best of luck on getting this resolved.

Are the "items" that you are sending allowed? They do inspect packages going to and from. Since you said "items" and not mail...

Try sending a letter to his commander at the same FOB.
Send a package through Red Cross.

If you are still so upset by this, contact your Congress person.

Mail it to someone in your sons unit, then if it is returned then you know its not a personal issue, but a result of sending mail during time of war, your complaints are useless, focus your energy on positives, and a positive will result

Gumby: the most likely answer is usually the simplest: check the address. He can file a complaint. You cannot. But if you feel you must, call your local Postal Inspector.

Quick fix is call your Congressman. That usually works pretty good and when they call the Army, you get answers.
