I've never hit my child and he flinches when someone raises their hands.
He plays sports and has been hit in the face and head a few times, so its natural reaction if something is close to his face moving to flinch. It doesnt always mean abuse.

I would be embarrassed if my child did that. I did that in my early years. I got my face slapped a lot. When I had my own children I found that when my children said something I thought was wrong I would Immediately strike out. Thankfully, I recognized that I was responding the way my parents responded and stopped that. I have been scared to open my mouth to say anything for years. Not the case know but when I do say what I believe I go through a lot of anxiety and panic attacks. I will hold things in until I can't stand it any more and then will get crazy with rage over something not that important. Child follow what has been taught them. If you answerr them with sarcasm often they will learn to answere you with sarcasm. Children are small their muscles a just developing in their neck and other places on their body. Slapping children in the face can cause all kinds of problems mentally and physically. I don't know of any child that deserves that type of discipline. There are other types of discipline that works better. There are lots of parenting groups just for that very reason. Common if you went up to a person on the street and slapped them you would be thrown in jail. As I learned to be a parent I recognized that I treated strangers better then I treated my own children. I changed my beliefs and values very fast.

When I was a kid, I was hit anywhere and everywhere. I remember seeing an afterschool special on TV(a series on morals and life problems and such) where a girl was babysitting a kid and they were at a game, basketball I think, and she raised her hand to cheer for someone who had just scored, and the little boy ducked and covered his head. It was a really powerful scene and a powerful moment for me. It was about child abuse, but that scene made me cry, because I was living it.
No child should be slapped around. It's one of the most evil things you can do because you are not only harming your own flesh and blood, but through the ripple effect you are harming many many others around in one way or another.
P.S. It was called "Please Don't Hit Me, Mom"

My son does this sometimes and I have NEVER slapped him in the face. A light pop on the butt is all. He does not go to daycare so we know he was not hit by someone else. Sometimes I think it is a natural reaction, like when someone is in a car wreck to cover their face.

Well when I was younger and I did something "really bad" I would get slapped in the face or the behind. I don't think it's very nice but as long as you don't do it abusive then it isn't that bad. It definately gets the point across!!

I agree, that is what butts are for. The only person who should ever be slapped in the face is your husband if he calls you a wh0re.

I WOULD HOPE MY CHILD WOULD NEVER DO THAT. I HAVE NEVER RAISED MY HAND TO MY CHILD THERE IS NO REASON TO. HITTING A CHILD IS WRONG I AGREE. IF I WAS TO SEE SOME ONE HIT A CHILD I WOULD PROBABLY HIT THEM TO SHOW THEM HOW IT FEELS OR BETTER YET HOLD THEM DOWN AND LET THE CHILD HIT THEM BACK A FEW TIMES
