I was reading my Bible and like I do every day and found a passage that said:

"Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it, and it will be yours"
-Mark 11:22, 24

So I prayed to get a new car, since the vehicle I have now is getting kind of old and I still haven't gotten one. What should I do? I know God's word isn't meaningless, and I know he wouldn't lie to me, so I figure I must be doing something wrong. How do I fix my prayer? Please help, I need to pick up a girl in like, 2 hours and I would to arrive in style.

First, ignore all the atheistic postings you are probably going to get by asking this question. Generally there are three answers that God gives to prayer: Yes, No, and Not Yet. I like the verse you quoted in your question, but it is not the only verse in the Bible that teaches on prayer. I would suggest getting a Bible dictionary or a Nave's Topical Bible and do a more comprehensive study on prayer and the kind that God likes to hear and answer. Also, remember prayer is a time for you to commune with God and not simply presenting your requests of "God give me my list of stuff." God wants to hear from us because he is our "Father" and not just a wish granting genie because he is loving and good.
I choose to answer this question because my wife and I were in need of a car because of an accident she was in and we weren't in a financial position to purchase a new or used one since we would have had to take on another loan we really couldn't afford. Long story short our church gave us an Oldsmobile Aurora that was in really good condition. A fellow named Louis at our church bacame interesed in our situation and put a bug in the ear of one of our pastors and one thing lead to another and we eventually ended up with that car. My point is you may have to do more than just pray. If someone at your local church asks how you are doing tell them fine except that your car is one its last leg. This is not an argument against prayer but rather more often than not God chooses to work through ordinary people who love God and want to demonstrate this love by acts of charity. Very rarly does a money bag drop out of the sky or a check in your mailbox. Also, if you have a car and it's still working you don't technically "need" a new one. I hope that was helpful to you and please do the further studying on prayer so you won't eventually become disillusioned like some of the atheists on this forum.

Your joking right? lol
Okay sorry - that was wrong.
All kidding aside, um.... keep in mind that prayers need to be realistic. Whoever you ask for the things you want, be it God or the universe or whoever - if you believe something in your heart, if you close your eyes and let yourself be filled up with the emotion of what you'll feel like when you have the new car, and yes, your prayer will eventually come true - however, lets be realistic, you want a car in two hours?
Can it happen? Yes, it can....
But again, let's just be realistic.
In case a new car doesn't find it's way to you in the next two hours, make sure your date is okay with dating you for who you are, not for the car you drive.
Always be prepared! lol

Sorry, but prayers do not work like that.

We can't use prayers to gain wealth or material possessions, it will not work. We also must remember to end every prayer, in the name of Jesus the Christ and say "Not my will be done, but yours."

In other words, while we might want things like a new car, we put our trust in G-d's Will; knowing that He can supply what is good for us. Not grant our every fancy whim.

Don't worry, God does things in his own time. Don't question it or try to rush it. You may not get the car in two hours, but you will receive it (or something else), eventually. Just keep praying. Another factor may be is that God knows you want to do this just to impress a girl - so that selfishness is working against you.

He may not come when you want him but he is always s on time. So just be patient god always provides for his people. Be thankful for the gift of having a car in the first place, for that is more than most. Also it doesn't work like that sorry. Just show the girl that you r a good man and she wont worry about your car.

"Behold infinity every day, and all that you seek shall be given to you."

"Any prayer asked in love, or honoring love will be answered, although your Father has no covenant to answer the prayers of your ego, to solve its self-made problems, or to make its fictions result in happiness. Your Creator is one with reality, so how can He answer a prayer that seeks further separation from the love and the reality that He is?"

Maybe because God doesn't want you to have a new car. You must learn how to pray. You don't just pray selfishly, saying I want, I want, I want. You must pray for His will to be done in your life (if you were a true Christian this is what you would want), when you start praying like that, then you will see answered prayers in your life.

I hope you aren't really serious about this. God does answer prayers. You just have to be patient. He'll answer when He feels it's necessary for your prayer to come true. A car isn't something important at this moment for you especially if it has to do with picking up a girl. God is not a genie to give you what you want...you must earnestly and honestly pray for something that you will put to good use and that will honor and glorify him. Not something this selfish.

Sometimes God's answers aren't what we WANT. But we have to trust that they are what is best.

Or maybe you haven't accepted Christ into your life yet...that may be the problem. The first prayer he will hear is the one where you ask him to be a part of your life.

God always has a reason. Maybe He thinks you're trying to impress this girl too much. God always answers prayer just not in the way we always want. Keep praying and don't lose Heart.
