To be honest, we'll never really know the full extent of God's reasoning. But I'm sure glad He did things the way He did. God sent Jesus (yes, a part of Himself; the Risen Jesus is seated at the right hand of the Father, symbolizing equality in statute and honor) to be the ultimate Sacrifice. The Old Testament had sacrifices of unblemished animals to atone for sins. But God sent His Son, the perfect unblemished being, to Earth through a virgin womb (also unblemished) to take care of a way to give forgiveness to all of humanity.

God did not HAVE TO die in a means like we HAVE TO die. He did it because He promised. He did not kill Jesus, Jesus gave His life so that you can have an everlasting life with Him.
Jesus is God and as He was fully God He was also fully human when He was here. He is the word that became flesh when you start to read the Gospel of John from the beginning.
God is not sending anyone to hell who will choose Him.This is His Creation, His rules apply. Your free will is always witin God's limits. You get to choose between hell and heaven, there is no other choices what comes to the eternity. Here on earth you have time to figure out what you want to do.
The wages of sin is death. In the OT time people had to do animal sacrifices, but we do not need them anymore because Jesus is the perfect sacrifice. Your ransom is paid and your sins will never be separating you from our Heavenly Father if you accept Jesus as your Savior. You have an important choice to make. Your ransom is paid, you have the choice to make : )

"For what earthly reason would the Heavenly Father send down His Son? To suffer rejection, and pay for crimes He had not done. For what earthly reason would the Father let Him hang on a tree? I wept with the answer, that one earthly reason was ME!
I was the reason, that one earthly reason. I was the guilty, He was the sacrifice. I was the taker, He was the giver. Dying while I go free, that one earthly reason was me.
The fairest of angels were not summoned from the throne up in the sky. His beauty was perfect, not even the angels could die. The only provision for my freedom was destined to be. The Sweet Lamb of Glory, and His only reason was me.
I was the reason, that one earthly reason. I was the guilty, He was the sacrifice. I was the taker, He was the giver. Dying while I go free. that one earthly reason was me!"
this is a beautiful song. even if you cant hear the music, the words are all you need!

By being born as a man, dieing then resurrecting in 3 days, Jesus became the final living sacrafice for sin. The wages of sin is death, but Jesus beat death. So though Jesus, God has kept within His design and mad eit possible for us to atone our sins through the sacrafice of Jesus and also be resurrected into Heaven to be with the Father.
Pretty awesome, huh?

Why would God want to kill his Son who was also God? Now does that make sense to you? So was God going to kill himself? THINK, man.

Here's the answer you're going to get: this is proof that god loves us. Apparently he wasn't too crazy about his son, though.
Your question is perfectly logical and makes a lot of sense, which is why the believers will never be able to give you a reasonable answer to it.

God didn't "have" to kill His Son. Jesus gave up His earthly life so that we as human's could have a chance. Jesus said in the Bible "no man taketh my life, I lay it down." He voluntarily gave His life for ours so that we could be free from bondage and sin. It's our choice to follow Christ and we have to be willing to follow Him.
