As he passed by he saw a man blind from birth.
His disciples asked him, "Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?"
Jesus answered, "Neither he nor his parents sinned; it is so that the works of God might be made visible through him."

In any religion, you will find a person who goes to strange lengths in their beliefs. These are not the mainstream folk. I once heard a person say that the reason the earth is round is because all of the letters in GOD are rounded in some way. The person also said this is why all of the other planets are round as well. Some people just get a little crazy when they get into something.

As one who is disabled, I can't for the life of me imagine what I might have done in *this* lifetime, let alone another, that would cause my mobility to be taken from me, and have my every waking hour filled with pain.
My diseases are simply a matter of bad genes. Autoimmune disorders run in my family and I just happened to draw the short straw.
If I believed in God, then I would either be angry at him for afflicting me in this way, or I would be thanking him for giving me a chance to gain strength. Since I don't believe any of this, I have to accept that bad things happen to everyone, and this is just something that I have to deal with. Nothing supernatural about that.

No I don't believe disability is from a past sin, but from what I heard are each of our lives are supposedly planned before we get here and whatever disability, pain, suffering mentally or physically, we go through these lessons to help each of our souls to grow more each time we are here.

I don't believe that. I actually believe they chose their disabilities so that they could learn certain lessons in this lifetime. I'm not sure what religion would back disability being punishment.

I think it makes sense, I'm not sure if I believe it. Most people do sin, but you have to go to either heaven or hell, and most people are in the middle. So I think that God punishes people on earth in order to make the placement a little more fair.

OH MY GOODNESS, NO!
That is so unbelievably horrible for someone to say that.
I can't think of any religion who would say such a lie like that. I can believe people who are judgmental and ignorant can say that, but not a religion as part of religious doctrine.

lmfao.
Hinduism is very likely to believe that you carry karma over with you from one life to the next. Buddhism believes the same thing, and its goal is to eliminate bad and good kharma. Still, imagine a Christian stand-point, that would be hilarious. God: "Dude, you messed up. Do it again, this time without any legs."

I definitely do not. I can not sense an ounce of anything remotely bad coming from my son. I think anyone who believes this... and I'm going to actually say this. A belief like that is asinine and completely unfounded.

My mom dabbled in "new age" stuff for a while and they told her that because she was in labor with me for over 36 hours, that it meant that I was fighting to keep from being born because I knew I was going to have to pay for many sins. Really screwed me up to hear this because I was about 10 years old at the time when she gave me the news!!! Thanks mom.
