no it will not die of loneliness, as long as YOU become its mate. make sure you spend LOTS of time with her and tame her to your finger or tak to her every day a lot. also- when you go out, leave on a radio or some cartoons or something so she doesnt go nuts in the silence! she will be fine with lots of love! if you do not think you will have enough time to spend with her, and dont want her to spend time with you, then yes, get another budgie so she can have a friend. but know she will not be easy to tame once she has another bird to hang out with instead of you

No you bird will no die from being alone in its cage. The thing that will affect your bird is how much time you spend with it. Birds become very attached and become very emotional and distressed when they are not shown enough attention. They can stop eating, moulting etc. If you do decided to get another bird just keep in mind that it does sometimes affected the birds personalities sometimes choosing the bird over you!! But don't worry if he stays in the cage alone he will live... Just make sure to show him plenty of attention!!

What an array of answers, boy i'll tell you!!!
NO MIRRORS period!! If you can't spend time with your bird, don't get one!! You shouldn't own an animal if you don't have the time to spend with them.
The bird will not die of lonliness if kept by itself, but my question to you is, why did you get a bird, if you have no intentions on spending any time with it?
Why would you buy another bird, when then you'll have two birds that you obviously will have no time for two birds, and have twice the food bill, twice the cleaning, and twice the aggravation? It just don't make sense!!!

I have 2 parakeets, a boy and a girl. I know when i first got my bird i got her a buddy but when she died her friend was depressed and wouldn't eat so we got him a friend and now i have 2 birds. If you are gone for long periods, buy quite a few toys (mirror toys are good) so she'll have something to do to pass the time. Also if u are gone, leave the t.v. on softly so she hears some voices. If you find she isn't eating or getting un-puffy (aka skinny), you may want to think about buying her a friend. (in my opinion)

You should give your female parakeet a lot of attention. Probably 1-2 hrs a day and it won't die of loneliness. You SHOULD buy another parakeets if you can't give your parakeets 1-2 hrs of attention everyday. But if you want your parakeets to trust you, I suggest you shouldn't buy another parakeet because then it will be harder for them to trust because then they'll trust on each other, and probably not you.
Good Luck:)

She [yes, she's a girl, not an 'IT'] will be fine if she has a friend- and YOU can be that friend. Birds SHOULDN'T stay in their cages all day. You need to take her outside of her cage and play with her for at least an hour a day. If you're not planning on doing this with ONE bird, there's no way in hell you can do it with two birds.

As long as you maintain the right food and keep water in there (and watch out for wicked-cold air drafts) your parakeet should be fine. It might be happire if you spend time talking to it and, in general, giving it attention, it should thrive. Since it's a female, you might want to watch out for it getting egg-bound, but that is unlikely. Try picking up a book at the library and teach yourself things about your bird.

You can either spend a lot of time with it or buy a mirror. I don't recommend both. The mirror could prevent the bird from bonding with you. But, if you are too busy to do more than feed, clean and water if then a mirror would be good.

I think it would be better if you buy another parakeet because when I went to buy parakeets the people there said it would be better to buy two. And if you do buy another one i suggest to buy another girl parakeet because I bought a male and a female and they would fight and poke each other with their beaks and the male wouldn't let the female eat anything so the female ended up dying.

If you have a single bird you must interact with her, supply toy's etc. She must have company sometime throughout the day. If your bird is left alone, she may get stressed through loneliness, which may/will lead to illness, which depending on what type of illness can be fatal if not treated quickly enough...
