Provide a society that is SAFE so that they can live outside in peace without being bothered by authority figures or intruders on their personal space and bodies. Why must everyone be forced to have to provide high cost shelter for themselves! Think about it. It is a rigid/greedy society that decides that people must pay money to be alive.
This society divides people up based on their financial means. That is barbaric and inhumane!
Where is the soul in that! What the homeless need more then anything is that society have a shift of perception.
If it is a life choice to live unattached, then so be it!
What is a house really, but a high cost storage unit for people and their stuff!
How about people providing their backyards!

Hi, I live in a area of town that is plagued with homeless (I think it has got worse since the war and crazy inflations). I have helped so many ( despite i used to think they worthless and annoying). My life has been blessed richly for changing my attitude towards them. Anyways!!!! My first advice is eye contact and smiles/hello's is the first way to help. A lot of them have basically lost their minds living on the streets and need to be showed someone still cares- simply by showing they are worth a dam. As for materialistic items they need clean clothes to change into and shoes that fit. Winter is coming and blankets/coats will be first priorty. A wonderful thing would be to go to your nearest homeless shelter and donate bedding and clothes. For the homeless- even a one dollar donation can help.

Don't laugh, but socks and underwear come to mind. Good wool socks for the winter months. Polyester doesn't keep anyone warm. If you have a bigger project in mind, sleeping bags are wonderful any time of year. If you are working through a church, you could open at certain times convient to your members, to let people take showers. A place to study for GED would really help people change their situation.

here are some items to consider:
blankets
coats
shoes
mittens/gloves
hygiene products (tooth brush, tooth paste, etc...)
this is obviously an abbreviated list of items that those who do not have home may need. but perhaps these items are most essential.

Well, I heard of a program that distributes tampons, pads, etc. to needy women.
