assalam o alaikum
well if u apologised with a promise to yr self that never in any condition will u ever repeat it and yr apology has been whole heartedly accepted by yr familian they is nothing finer than that.. may allah forgive u ..
make sure u comfort that person and go an extra mile to do his or her work .
i gift or anything that u know is liked is what u can give to him/her.
and when u pray to Allah add Adam's A.S prayer
Al-A'raf (The Heights) > [7:23
and Younis's A.S prayer
Al-Anbiya (The Prophets)> [21:87]
أَ لَّا إِلَهَ إِلَّا أَنتَ سُبْحَانَكَ إِنِّي كُنتُ مِنَ الظَّالِمِينَ
21:87
pray this wholeheartedly and yr inner guilt will go

To start off, I am a Christian so you may not agree with my answer, but you asked for a sincere answere and here it is.
Some of it depends on what you did. If it was something truely horrible, you "should" go to jail, if nothing else then to protect other people from it happening again. If not as bad, and the person realy has forgiven you, then that is where the physical punishment should end.
As a Christian, I believe that Allah is a God of forgiveness and is ready to forgive anyone. But I also believe that Allah is a God of justice. Allah will only forgive those whose debts have been paid and the only one who has the ability to pay that debt is Allah himself, in the form of Jesus. Until you accept the payment that he gave for your sins through the death of his physical manifestation on the cross, he will not forgive you.
So there you go. You can take it or leave it. It's up to you.

If you are truly sorry, you ask for forgivness from the person you hurt and Allah SWT. And if you are sorry, He will forgive you. As for you, you have to come to terms with what you did and forgive yourself, which is the hardest part. After that you will most likely be more mindful before you do something like that again. Allah is forgiving. If you are sincere with your apology He will be sincere in your forgiveness.
Take care :)

I think you have done the right things. As long as you have asked for forgiveness from the heart, Allah will hopefully forgive you. Since your family member has forgiven you, you should be okay. Just don't do it again.

If you have gained the forgiveness of your family member, and have done your best to make amends with Allah, then you have done two of the things you needed to do. The third thing is the hardest, and that's to forgive yourself. Just remember that we all do things we shouldn't do sometimes, but after we try to right the wrongs we've done, we need to also forgive ourselves and move on with our lives.

If your ALLAH SWT is forgiving like my GOD he will wipe the slate clean. You did the right thing in asking forgiveness from both your family and ALLAH SWT.

Friend, I am a Christian, & you know Christians don't believe in islam's allah, But whatever you did & your family forgives you, My answer would be to ask God to forgive you, But if your mind is set on allah, then isn't your allah all forgiving. Think about it.

Do not worry about what Allah will "do" to you. Think about what you will do to make amends. Seeking forgiveness is one thing. Have you done your best to make up for your actions? Have you learned enough to change your attitude? Enough for it to show in your behavior? Allah sees the inside. If you have sincerely changed, Allah will know.

Really depends on what you did, doesn't it, Jack? If you murdered your brother, or raped your sister, that'd be a far cry different from slapping your brother. If God has a gradient punishment system designed for misdeeds, then if you're on the top end of that ladder, you're probably going to have to go through some serious one-on-ones and repentence acts with God.
Now, if you were Taoist, like me, you'd just have to live with yourself, and what you had done.
