Then why do some even bother asking atheists to disprove god, or invite atheist speakers to debate?

Nothing an atheist scientist could say would alter the fact that they state that god is outside of nature, and the rules do not apply to their god.

For example (most arguments go like this)

The immovable mover...
God pre-existed and created the universe. He just always existed. You cannot apply natural physiology to him.

This reminds me of the chapter where Carl Sagan talks about the dragon in his garage in "The Demon-Haunted World" -- if god is invisible, intangible, exists outside of time and space, and has no measurable or reproducible effect on the material world, what exactly does it mean to say "God exists"; and how does a universe with such an ineffectual god differ from one with no god at all?

Don't count science out, we're used to playing with a handicap. Look at the Renaissance following the dark ages. We can disprove God, it'll just take a whole lot of research, and a great deal of time. And you know, by that time, it'll hardly matter because with all of the advancements along the way, there will be so much evidence contrary to any existing theological doctrine that hardly anybody but the most persistent will continue to believe.

The argument actually goes like his:

(1) Everything that exists contingently has a reason for its existence.
(2) The universe exists contingently.
Therefore:
(3) The universe has a reason for its existence.
(4) If the universe has a reason for its existence then that reason is God.
Therefore:
(5) God exists.

Ah, yes. They start with the premise that an "actual infinite" cannot exist, so the universe must have had a beginning, and therefore a cause - and "God" must be that Cause. So...what caused God? Well, He's the exception to the rule. It's a cute trick, but it only satisfies people who want to be satisfied by it.

Probably because atheist are like Christians, they'll take the opportunity to preach anytime they're given a chance.

I don't understand why either side can pretend they know more than the other.

It's like PC and Mac fighting over who has the best computer hardware, they have two different philosophies and standards. I'm partial to PC since it was my first computer and it's still working.

You have the basic argument down. To bad for the argument that a God outside of this universe's space and time would have no way of interacting with it. In effect, God would not exist.

Christians will always find an excuse for God. Even if it's "God had a greater plan for destroying all the people in the world/the poverty in Africa/wars/bad things happening to good people. We cannot possibly comprehend this. Now go worship evil God."

Fortunately the burden of proof is not to disprove god but to prove that he exists. We're still waiting for deists to design an experiment to prove their hypothesis.
