Well, I don't claim donating is bad. For sure, it's one of good things to do! But there are so many charities asking for donations and once one has subscribed they start asking for more! So, what I'd like to ask you is whether you donate, and in what form.
Some of them really have good causes but are too persistent in asking!

I have donated to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, which I think is a great one, and very legit. But they started sending me so much stuff in the mail...I still was unable to at the time, just cause they send cards made by kids doesn't mean I'll automatically have extra $ to give. I feel bad but I give when I can.

I only ever donate anonamously. Once I donated with my name and was for the next 5 years contacted for more donations. I thought it was a waste as the letters and communication I received would have more then eaten up any donations I had made....

I can understand how you feel but there are too many people in need in this country. I plan to help the animals.

THE NEEDY WILL ALWAYS BE WITH US. YOU DON'T NEED TO FEEL OBLIGATED TO GIVE TO ALL OF THEM. GIVING IS SOMETHING YOU DO FOR OTHERS AS WELL AS FOR YOURSELF. IF YOU ARE A GENEROUS AND COMPASSIONATE PERSON YOU WILL TEND TO FEEL BETTER ABOUT YOURSELF. YOU WILL ALSO EASE THE SUFFERING OF OTHERS AND THE ENVIRONMENT WILL SHOW SIGNS OF IMPROVEMENT. YOU MAY ALSO FIND THAT OTHERS WILL TEND TO ACT IN A MORE GENEROUS AND KIND MANNER TOWARD YOU.
