Will you go in great research in reputable breeders for golden retreivers?

We tried in vain for over 2 years to find a golden in our local shelter with no success. We researched a few breeders before just deciding to buy a female 2 1/2 years ago. She has been so great. So great that we went out 1 1/2 years ago and purchased a male. Beautiful pair of dogs. Only problem we have now is what do we do with the 8 puppies that are now 3 weeks old. I can send you some pictures of the pups if you like. I'm seriously not trying to sell you a puppy, I am in eastern Canada , I am only sharing our experience. We contacted golden retriever rescue missions from as far away as South Carolina and all across Canada so if that is what you are in the middle of(a search), stick with it, our only regret was not getting them sooner. Good luck ..

That's one option, but a much better option is to Google "Golden retriever rescues." Many dog rescues are set up by breed. A lot of purebred dogs end up getting abandoned by people who didn't do the proper research on a breed before purchasing it, and just picked it out because they thought it was "cute." These dogs then need homes just as much as any other dog who is suddenly abandoned, lost, or mistreated. The rescues cater to people who really want a certain breed of dog, but would rather not to go to a breeder for personal or financial reasons. For example, I got my beloved English bulldog Manny, at a bulldog rescue here in Colorado. I got the purebred bulldog I'd always dreamed of, and he got the good home he truly needed. As an added bonus, I got a beautiful, show-quality dog that would have cost me like $2800 in a pet store or through a breeder, for FREE. Now, I was just really lucky, because most rescued dogs cost at least a little bit, but still, paying like $200 for a rescued 1-year-old Golden retriever is better than paying $800 for a Golden puppy who may or may not be the victim of a puppy mill.

I am all about rescuing and giving pups a second "leash" on life, so if I really wanted a pure-bred Golden... I would contact our local Golden Retriever rescue (pure-bred rescue).

However, it is absolutely worth it to do research to find a responsible and reputable breeder! All your persistence and time will pay off! I recommend locating your local Golden Club and go to their events. Meet as many Goldens, breeders, owners, etc. as possible. Ask tons of questions, get tons of kisses, and enjoy yourself! You will learn a lot and leave with breeder referrals.

Good luck!!

There are Golden Retriever rescue groups in almost every state, and if there is not one locally, I am sure they would be willing to help with the transport. PLEASE try a rescue group first, before contacting a breeder. Try a search on Petfinder.com, looking in your regional area for Golden Retrievers. There are many good dogs to be had from rescue groups, even many with papers. Good Luck

Can't help with Breeders but you can also try a rescue group that specializes in Golden Retrievers.

I search in Google for Golden Retriever Rescue and I get tons of links. Add your home state to the search and see if anything pops up.

There are always golden retrievers at reputable rescues and shelters on Petfinder.com. If you don't find one today, there will be one tomorrow. Any age, any sex.... I guarantee it.

Search by state or area code.

EDIT:
I agree thoven, I wish there were never any goldens available. Unfortunately, I think that will never be the case. I hope the asker will keep looking at petfinder if he or she doesn't find a dog the first day. There are always more dogs needing homes every day - which was the point I was trying to make... Please keep looking if you don't find one right away! =)

I don't think you are going to win this debate. Not only are there hundreds of Golden Retrievers (young ones) listed on Petfinder.com, but if you plug in Golden Retriever rescue on the search bar, you will get at least ten pages of rescue groups across the country. Give it up and spay/neuter your animals. If you want another one, go to a reputable breeder or adopt.

Are you in Texas, I know of a Golden pup that needs a good home.

I would Google Golden Retriever Rescue, they have one for every area, our is North Texas Golden Retriever Rescue, most of them are Golden Oldies.

I would check golden retriever rescue groups. I'm certain there are thousands of goldens out there looking for homes.
