I was watching the news, and this illegal alien who was being interviewed claimed that our immigration law was broken. She asked why would we enforce a law that we knew was broken.

I think there might be a problem in communicating to the illegals what exactly is going on here. When the law says not to do something and you do it anyway, that is something we call "breaking the law". The law was "broken" by you because you did not obey it. When we say the law has been broken, we are not claiming or even implying that there is a problem with our laws. The only problem is that you are ignoring our laws and publicly claiming it is your right to disobey our laws. THAT is the problem.

Does anyone else think part of the problem may have to do with a misunderstanding of what "breaking the law" actually means?

pandasex, my family came over here legally. They were bought and paid for in Africa and resold to slavemasters legally.

Also, not wearing a seatbelt (I happen to always wear mine) is a victimless crime. Illegal immigration is a crime where all Americans are victims. Illegal immigration allows for dangerous criminals, gang members and sex offenders to enter the country without the knowledge of our government. Illegal immigration allows for people with dangerous and contageous diseases to enter the country without providing protection from spreading. Illegal immigration promotes identity theft and tax evation. These crimes are much worse than not wearing a seatbelt. The punishments for these crimes are also different.

I am not against immigration. That part I think is a good thing that benefits us.

I am against ILLEGAL immigration -not because of the people, but because of the negative affects it has on our country physically, socially, morally, and economically.

Possibly. But it also has to deal with not caring about following ANY laws. It is human nature to know that taking something which is not yours is stealing, yet many illegal aliens have been caught doing just that. Their concept of right and wrong is part of their heritage, and they are angry that Americans have more, while they don't and feel that this is a good enough reason to take something which isn't theirs to begin with.

J walking is breaking the law. littering is breaking the law, not wearing ur seat belt is breaking the law. We dont take those seriously. I agree with u #1 i dont know if they understand what kind of law they are breaking. They might think it is like a minor law that they are breaking. I dont have any problems with them being here at all (unless they kill or rape some1) but as for them being here working illegally. We as a country have MUCH bigger fish to fry. Look at sex offenders and how flawed the system is there. Look at ppl collecting SS when they shouldn't be.
leave the illegal immigrants alone!!!
get over it ur family line came here once too for a better life and look at u now!!

They know it's illegal. They simply don't care until it inconveniences them and they seize every paltry and ridiculous excuse to justify it.
The majority of the illegals would never qualify for legal entry to live, but I consider that to be their problem.
There is a legal path for those who qualify, but the immigration system is swamped with dealing with illegals and that is harming the system. However, the illegals are the ones who break the law.

When the illegal immigrants say "the law is broken" they mean it doesn't work the way they want it to. Like when a drunk driver in handcuffs says the DWI law is "broken."

She was just parrotting a standard talking point. The meaning of broken in that standard talking point is not 'violated' but 'flawed.' The system for legal immigration is deeply flawed and inefficient, which makes breaking it's laws more attractive, since following them is so inconvenient and unproductive.

No, they know what it means. It's just not in their personal self interest to acknowledge it. Such is the case with many who protest. They know they don't have a leg to stand on, but that doesn't stopping from behaving as though they do.
