I've wondered why there are atheists on R and S for quite a while now. I mean, being an atheist basically means that you don't have a religion, right? So why bother being here?
Don't get ticked off at me because I'm asking this, and don't post any foolish answers! Thanks.

Hmm....There's some pretty interesting answers here, thanks for contributing your opinion, I'll do my best to respect it. I don't hate atheists, by the way, and that certainly isn't why I asked this question!
AdoreHim, I really like your answer, as well as some of the others that are polite and well thought out.

Because people ask questions about religion here, and atheists are the ones who have the correct answers.

Also because the Christians who come here seem to come almost exclusively to lie about others, including atheists, and of course we're interested in setting the record straight. I probably wouldn't come here if the Christians didn't lie so much about us.

Some Christians say that they can get all the answers from one book. Why do they come here to ask questions? This is an open forum. A lot of times the atheists have the right answers. When people answered: " God has a plan." or "God's way is mysterious", they did not really answer the question.

Atheists do not believe in gods, but it does not mean they do not know anything about the scripture.

You are making an assumption that I made and I was wrong.
There are mature people on this site with clear honest answers and they just happen to be atheist.
There are also a gang of juveniles that think harassing Christians is fun and atheism get them stirred up so.
I have decided most just stop by occasionally and some hover.
Asking not to get foolish answers is like putting a no soliciting sign by your door. That's an open invitation.

By the way atheism is a religion from what I understand. Some atheists, from what I can tell, believe in something that started the universe, kind of like a higher power, but don't acknowledge it as god.

Atheism is by definition a denial of the existence of supreme being. i don't exactly know how you can be spiritual without beleiving in a force powerful enough to create the world you live in. I don't doubt that you are spiritual. I think that you need to find a new description word besides atheist.; maybe agnostic. (someone who doesnt know what, if anything they beleive in) or something else. but not "atheist". it is too absolute for your position

i think it is safe to say that anyone who posts on RS is doing so because they have an interest in religion and spirituality. many, many Atheists are students of religions and have a strong desire to learn more from other people.

this question has been asked hundreds of times - so please forgive those foolish answers. you DID put the Atheists among us in the position of defending their right to participate in a PUBLIC forum.

if you would rather not have Atheists' interest, then i highly suggest you find a website that is for people of the faith you participate in only.

otherwise, be respectful. each of us has the right to believe what we want and to express it in this forum.

From a Christian's viewpoint- let those who do not believe in God stay here, maybe if someone with the love of God would be loving to those who do not believe, they would want to become a believer. I know some Atheists consider themselves Spiritual- however it depends on what their meaning of the word spiritual is. To me Spiritual comes from the Holy Spirit.

Atheists come here to debate. Although some come just to piss other people off. A lot of atheists ponder the meaning of existance etc just like non atheists. Also some are curious about aspects of religion.

I read the questions that are newly posted, if there is one concerning Atheism, I answer it. I don't go looking through the R&S section. This one was titled "Just something I've been curious about"...and it had me curious about the question.

Searching? Spirituality is a very nebulous word that can mean a billion different things.
