No they don't break easily, but remember not to wrap the cord around the iron or it will break the little wires inside of the cord. That will cause the iron to short out or break. I've been having mine well over a year and it works very well. I also have a Coraliss and it works just as well. They're both pretty pricey about $125 but are worth it, if you take care of them. The manufacturer gives you a year warranty. Good luck. 2D

I have one and I LOOOOOVE it! I've had other straighteners that were ceramic plated, but the CHI has ceramic plates sooooo much better. My hair is super shiny when I use it, and you can use it to make spiral curls as well as straighten. I asked my hairdresser before I bought one how long she had hers. She'd been using it for about a year with no probs and she used it on at least 3-4 people a day working 6 days a week. I've dropped mine several times and not so much as a chip off the plastic on the outside. Hope this helped.

i have only had my chi since the end of may but my mom had one for about a year and a half and it only burnt out like last week
i think that it works well compared to other straighteners because my hair is curly and so is my friends i went to her house and i brought my straightener i tried hers first and i had to go over the piece of hair like 7 times and her hair is layered and curly and in order for her to straighten her hair with her straightener she has to go over it about 10 times she used my straightener and she only had to go over the piece like 3-4 time i only have to go over the piece once or twice three tops so i really suggest getting a CHI

My mom has one.
I've used it a couple of times. I think i've dropped it maybe 5 times, and it hasn't broke. (maybe b/c i have carpet). I like b/c it really straightens my hair. The only thing i dont' like about is that the faceplate is little. I like mine big. The one i have is 2 inches.
my mom's friend is also a hairdresser so she recommeneds it to everyone.
