It has been generally agreed that the number 666 was the wrong interpretation and the number is 616. It originally referred to the Roman Emperor Nero and possibly Caligula.
It stems from numerology and Gematria, the no.s which correspond to the letters in the name of the Emperor only add to 666 if an extra N is added to the name. When spelt in the regular Latin way they add up to 616.
Ref; Judges 19:12; is the passage describing the ruler. The beast is thought to be the Roman Empire.

here are some theories
1. add them together 6+6+6=18 then add 1+8=9 9 is the number of god according to Jewish numerology and so omitted from the alphabetical +number system
2. a popular game 2000 years ago was who is this number using numerology and 666 is actually an emperor but pottery shards have been found to suggest 666 was a slightly later development and originally it was 616
3. the number is the number of man
4. and also the amount of gold in weight collected through tax by Solomon in one year not including merchants and some others 1 kings 10:14 and again in 2 Chronicles 9:13
so the writer of Revelations and thought money bad Solomon good so Solomons gold must be bad hence 666.
5. in visions things can be up side down and back to front 999
I've herd them all

In the Bible 7 is the perfect number, the number of completeness. So the number 6 is imperfect, incomplete and a picture of human failure. So 666 as the number of the beast is appropriate.
God bless

When Profit Mohammed went to Mekkah he was greeted by angry camels who wanted to hurt him. However before the camels could hurt him Allah sent 2 dozen wild boars (Strong Pigs) who saved Mohmad's *** from a good whipping. The same piggies had saved Moses' *** from a similar whipping 300 years ago during the famine and floods of the Noah's Ark era. Since then the Pigs are holy in the Jewish and Islamic religions. 8888 represents 4 pigs. The number 8 represents fat ladies which is derived from fat pigs. The Chinese Celebrated the Year of the Pig in 2007. In Moslem Kuntries they worship pigs as holy and no one can eat pigs. Breakfast without bacon strips sucks.

Hebrew letters are also Hebrew numbers. Ancient Jewish numerology involved taking names and adding the numbers of the letters together to see significance.
It turns out, that if you do that for Nero (his full title in Hebrew), it adds up to 666. Caligula added up to 616, which is found in an alternate text fragment.

Every letter used to have a numerical value.
666 is the value of the letters in NERO, who was the person referred to in The Revelation.

Some letters also have numerical values. Roman Numerals for instance. Greek also. The letters in the name of the anti Christ will add up to 666. By the way. Anyone that doesn't believe that Jesus is the Christ is an anti Christ.
