The lyrics are what you want them to be. Once upon a time they were occasionally sexist or obscene but that is not allowed anymore. I've seen, several years ago, a couple CDs with cadences on them but not for some time. Rent the movie "Cadence" and see what you think of that.

First to fight for the right, and to build the Nation's might,
And the Army Goes Rolling Along
Proud of all we have done,
Fighting till the battle's won,
And the Army Goes Rolling Along

CHORUS:
Then it's hi, hi, hey! The Army's on its way
Count off the cadence loud and strong (two, three)
For wher-e'er we go, You will always know
that the Army Goes Rolling Along

Other Verses:
March along, sing our song
with the Army of the free
Count the brave,
count the true,
who have fought to victory.
We're the Army and proud of our name;
We're the Army and proudly proclaim:

Chorus
Valley Forge, Custer's ranks, San Juan hill and Patton's tanks,
And the Army went rolling along.
Minute men from the start,
Always fighting from the heart,
And the Army keeps rolling along.

Chorus
Men in rags, men who froze, still that Army met its foes,
And the Army went rolling along.
Faith in God, then we're right,
And we'll fight with all our might,
As the Army keeps rolling along.

It's a military cadence with several versions.
One version is:
Well I Don't Know...
Well, I don't know but I've been told
Those Navy wings are made of gold.
I don't know but it's been said
That Air Force wings are made of lead!

A rather risque version can be found at the link below.

I actually always hated that cadence...it is cheesy...but cadences suck now since you can not use cuss words anymore...in PLDC (Primary Leadership Development Course) which is now WLC (Warrior Leaders Course), I tried to sing the "My Girl's a Vegetable" cadence, but they wouldn't let me...=(

It is typically and ad lib line that follows and is repeated. There are hundreds. followed by sound off, 1,2, sound off 1,2,3,4..... a cadence to hike and jog to.
