Me and my bf have tried cooking togther a few times, but it usually ends up being one of us. mostly b/c we don't really know how to cook. We are both 23 and it is time to learn. Going out to eat is getting to costly anyway. I need some ideas for a dinner that would be really fun to cook together and that we can really gets our hands into. I'm not that worried about it coming out tasty (b/c I'm sure I'll still ruin the recipe. haha) But I just want it to be super fun and where we both can cook at the same time. Any ideas?

First of all, pick a recipe, any recipe. Then set out every pot or pan or board or knife you'll need. Grab a couple beers or glasses of wine and turn on the stereo. Dancing in the kitchen is fun when cooking, then it's not a chore when it's to music!

We have the tiniest kitchen, but we cook together. Like he'll say "Can you chop up an onion and some green bell pepper for me? And I need an egg." OK, that's my side of the kitchen. Meanwhile he'll do the breading and frying for me for whatever. I ask him for plates or bowls from the cupboard or to grab the olive oil or something. "Pass me *that*" is common. Meanwhile we both get to sing, talk about the day, and joke around, and still get dinner to the table.

You'll get better at cooking, it's all in the trying new stuff and enjoying company and laughing. If you screw up badly, laugh about it and order a pizza! (We've done that a couple times!)

The best way is the split the responsibility. One does the main dish, one does the side dish, one does salad or dessert etc. For the simplest recipes try campbells.com- they use campbells soups, swanson stocks or prego spaghetti sauce. They usually have less than 5 ingredients and most taste really good.
My recommendations are:
BBQ pork spareribs
Beef Taco Bake
Beef Teriyaki
Asian Chicken stir-fry
Chicken & Broccoli Alfredo
Creamy Ranch Pork Chop (Don't make the ranch rice- that's a little weird)
Plus those recipes are really low-cost. After you've gotten your feet wet with that, try some slow-cooker recipes. Those are great because you can have food waiting on you when you get home. Just toss a salad, warm up some bread and you're done. Taste of Home has some great slow-cooker recipes. In fact, I've made 100+ taste of home recipes and not one has flopped!
Casseroles are easy too. Paula Deen has some great recipes- find those at foodnetwork.com. Good luck and have fun!

Now a days cooking is so easy and fun! Buy a bag of precooked chicken patties at the convinience store and cook them on the grill. Add some of your fav. spices on there too. While you do that, have him prepare the mashed potatoes or the gravy. Maybe even some corn on the cob. Pretty easy huh? Or maybe you two can switch. While he barbecues some fajitas, you can prepare the rice and that way you both get to cook!

You could do tacos or taco salad because they are easy, fun to cook and eat, and they taste good. There are lots of different toppings, so you can both do different parts. One person could cook the meat, one person could grate cheese, etc. They are also really versatile. You can use different types of meat, and you can each add different toppings so that it is exactly the way you want it. That way you won't have arguments about what to put into a recipe and what not to.

We often took turns, by the week so we could plan the weeks meal, do the shopping and the cooking.
It was also a small kitchen and it was a question of getting in one another's way that stopped us working together.
In the end I was the better cook and we agreed I would do the cooking, and have now for years.

When my boyfriend and I cook together, we usually designate one person to man the stove and the other to prep and make the sauces. Since our kitchen is pretty small, it's like cooking together, but with some space.
Pasta: one person makes the sauce, the other person makes the pasta. Once the ingredients are ready to come together, we stand together and taste and season together.
Stifry: one person chops and dices and prepares the sauce, the other person sautees.
Meat with sidedishes: one person marinates and cooks the meat while the other one does the sidedishes
