the charismatic renewal is a movement which arose out of Pentecostalism between the late 1940's thru early 60's. It is a cancerous movement which promotes the spread of heretical teachings within mainline denominations. Rather than being a separate denomination, it's adherents remain in their regular churches (baptist, methodist, presbyterian, etc.) but introduce teachings into their churches which are at odds with their church's creeds and/or confessions of faith. Charismatics are dominionist in that they seek to infiltrate not just churches, but government as well. They are very much at the core of the "Christian America" cult movement, and believe that God has chosen them to be apostles and prophets in the last days. They are very elitist in their form of "Christianity" in that they believe that other Christians haven't achieved the same level of spirituality as they have. Most of Christian broadcasting is Charismatic, and you don't have to listen long before you hear them bragging about how anointed they are or how much God is blessing them. The truth is they are spiritually bankrupt. They deny the Sovereignty of God, they mock the suffering of Christ, and they've bastardized the Holy Spirit.

A charismatic Christian is the Catholic equivalent of a Pentacostal Protestant. They come together to pray in groups and believe in the "charisms"-- a fancy name for the "gifts of the holy spirit" whereby, during group (or individual) prayer, they may speak or sing "in tongues," prophesy, and performing healing by "laying on of hands."
