Do they not know the definition of what a Christian is? I mean seriously I get tired of heaing how I'm not a true Christian and that I'm going to hell and that I'm a Satanist or a "Mary Worshipper". What's up with that?

People have many misconceptions about Catholicism, which can be clearly seen in this thread. Catholics don't need a priest, or a saint, or Mary to talk to God. Catholics believe in a heaven AND hell so no we don't think everyone goes to heaven. Jesus did ask us to hold his mother as special as our mother, said so when he was on the cross. There is a biblical basis for all Catholic beliefs and traditions, some people just don't wish to see it that way. No matter what we say, people are still going to have the wrong idea about Catholicism because they choose to, just don't let it get toyou.

Wow you really struck a chord with this question!! I am a Catholic who's gone through RCIA and can also be found at the Protestant church. Does that mean I am only a Christian half the time? Your relationship with God is between you and Him, and no one has the right to judge it but the two of YOU! God Bless you, and don't worry about what others say. Only be concerned about what God thinks. The Bible says to let the peace of the Holy Spirit point you in the right direction.

I do feel it must be emphasized, that although Mary is to be venerated, true worship belongs only to Jesus!

PS: I apologize for our fellow Christians who have probably never been to a mass, but feel they have the right to judge you. If Christ was here, he'd be downright clear on the subject - JUDGE NOT LEST YE BE JUDGED!

A True Christian is one who has come to God in The Way He prescribes and received His free gift of Salvation. Those become part of The Body of The Church of which Jesus The Christ is The Head. Only those of The Church will enter Heaven.

There is only One Church... God will not concider any ones "denomination", sect, cult, doctrine, or "traditions", as any credit for entry into Heaven.

The Roman catholic(RC) is forbidden to hear The Truth of The Salvation Message. A priest of the RC is forbidden to tell anyone that their Salvation is assured... those of The True Christian Faith know with certainty that their Salvation is secure.... no pope of the RC has ever been able to state that he knows his Salvation is secure... The RC claim to be both the "first" and "the only" church... they are neither... the RC did not even begin untill almost 300 yrs after the last Apostle died.... The RC changed the Sabbath to Sunday against The Word of God... and they admit it... it was done to assert the authority of the pope in Rome... Christ taught that there is no one but Him between the individual and God. And that one who accepts Christ may go to God directly in The Name of Christ... There is no need to confess to any man...confession is to God alone and it is between God and the individual only.
There are no "traditions" neededto be followed, or any work required, for any one to come to God and receive His free gift of Salvation.

The basics of Christianity are that there are Protestants and Catholics. The Protestants are broken into many different "sects" and each "sect" has its own beliefs as to how you should believe. The Catholics believe that Mary is holy because she gave birth to the Lord Jesus Christ. Both churches believe in God and Jesus. The only real diffrence is their rituals.

I grew up in Catholic schooling and went to a Baptist Church. I was baptized Lutheran and became a Methodist. I then decided to walk the path according to my heart and became a pagan.

I wonder if you will seriously consider what some have to say in answer to your question.

Do you know what a Christian is? Is it just someone who "believes" in Christ?

A Christian is one who has God's Holy Spirit in them.

Those who have the Holy Spirit are those who believe THE GOSPEL.

The gospel preached by the Catholic church is a false gospel.

Why then would God give His Spirit to one who believes a false gospel? Do you honestly think God honors those who believe a false gospel-- that there is salvation in believing a false gospel?

The gospel is salvation knowledge, in essence. It is what Scripture declares one must believe/do in order to be saved.

A false gospel is either one of adding to the gospel, or taking away from the gospel.

The gospel of Scripture preached by Jesus and the apostles was one of placing one's faith and trust strictly and solely on Jesus Christ.

The Catholic church falsifies the gospel by declaring other things are necessary and required for salvation, such as membership in the Catholic church.

The pope reiterated this belief back in 2001.

So who are you going to believe? Jesus and the apostles, or the Catholic church and the pope?

This teaching that one must be in the Catholic church in order to attain to salvation means that one's faith in Christ is not enough.

The Pharisee Christians in Acts 15 were subverting the souls of Gentile converts by telling them they had to undergo circumcision and keep the law in order to be saved.

Hope you learned something.

Some people have a different definition about what a Christian is.....to them it has to do with being "saved".

Catholics think it's arrogant and prideful to say you're saved because they believe you only know this after you've died and face God.....then He tells you.

A Christian is anyone who believes in Jesus Christ and follows His teachings.

I suspect that many non-Catholic Christians are aware of exactly how influential the Catholic church is, and how strong its claim to historical continuity with the original church really is.

So they make up lots of stuff about the pope wearing a Babylonian fish for a hat, and Constantine inventing Christianity, etc. etc. in order to try and draw attention away from the strength of the Catholic church's claims.

You pray to dead people that's what's up with that.
My little Catholic wife will not give up her catholic church but she is a true believer and Christian, Because she prays directly to Jesus.
Remember that we should be happy when persecuted for His name's sake.

Catholics say Protestants aren't "real" Christians; Protestants say that Catholics aren't the "real" ones. Quit worrying about what other people say, and just do what you believe is right - I suspect that's what God is after :-)

Catholics follow a great deal of traditional Christianity, traditions that were created without scriptural support.

If one believes Christianity is the result of scripture alone, then Popes, saints, and the other various purely Catholic traditions do not reflect Christianity.

I'm not a Christian, but I can see why people would view Catholics the same as they would Mormons, people who have added unnecessarily to Christianity, and thus tarnished its real meaning.
