Since you didn't give much info, the most I can give you is a website that you may be able to find the bird on. There are a lot of chickens with red-ish feathers, did it look like a chicken or something more like a pheasant? Hmmm...Guineas don't come in red...and...well, it could be a type of pheasant - but they don't look much like hens. Well, this is my favorite website, and I'm sure the answer is somewhere in its many pages of pictures and info.

Maybe a Rhode Island Red hen?

It could be a woodduck or a guinea fowl, but then it could be a hen afterall, as some chickens have red colored plumage.
