Get a Basset Hound. Goldendoodles are nothing but overpriced puppymill mutts with a fancy name and high pricetag..

Goldendoodles are not a real breed. The Basset Hound, on the other hand, is a real breed.
Goldendoodles are simply the latest sales pitch of puppymills and BYB's, who are looking to make a buck.
If you want a Golden Retriever mix, go the shelter, or look on PetFinder. There are a million Golden mixes in shelters, and being euthed every single day!!
Also, I would strongly suggest that you do some serious research before getting any dog. Research dogs in general, then after you have decided which breed you would like to go with, research that particular breed extensively.
Remember that no true breeder will breed or sell a "Goldendoodle", as they are Mutts. Anyone who tries to sell you one of those is a BYB or puppymiller.
Please, do not get a dog just because it is "cool". That is entirely the wrong reason for making the decision to get a dog.

Wow, I can see a lot of emotion in these responses. I am surprised that you would be making a choice from two dogs that are so different. I think you should perform some research rather than asking people for their opinions. There are certain health issues that both dogs can suffer from. I'm not one to believe that you "must" select a purebred dog that is acknowledged by the AKC. Golden's have wonderful personalities and make excellent family dogs, that tied in with a standard poodle (if the mix is 3/4 poodle and 1/4 golden) can be excellent for people with allergies. Best of luck.

Your best bet is to do some research to see which breed best suits your family and lifestyle. Look at medical issues that each breed has, and find a reputable breeder. Many people have their own opinions on the "doodle" breeds. My opinion is that if you wish for a mixed breed, there are plenty needing homes in shelters, etc...I feel that people are charging too much for these "designer breeds" when there are so many other "MIXED" breeds needing homes. Ultimately it has to be YOUR decision, you cannot let others on here influence what type of dog you want. If you are interested in a purebred dog, try looking on http://www.breeders.net and for others... http://www.petfinder.com . Good luck in your decision. All puppies are great!

They are both completely different, so it depends on which would fit into your lifestyle.
"Kool" is not a good criteria for selecting a companion for the next 12-13 years.

basset hounds are harder to train and they are in teh hound family so are howlers. Bassets do shed a lot. Very hard headed.
Goldendoodles are much easier to train, they are excellent fammily dogs and aer pretty much shedless dogs Very loyal and loving

Well I think you should get a golden doodle just because i think they are just a little bit more intelligent and easier to train. I heard that basset hounds howl quite a bit sometimes. But the decision is still up to you. Go take a look at your nearest animal shelter. You may find something you like and plus you get to save a life!

Please don't encourage the breeders of labordoodles. It you want a shedless dog than just get a standard poodle, go with a basset hound.
