It depends on where you are, what kind of place it is, and your position. A cook tops out around $15/hour here. Chefs are making over 100K easily and have houses in the hills and can afford Jags and Mercedes. A dishwasher/prep cook makes about $8/hour.

Kind of sucks, I'm either overqualified or underqualified. So I found a different career.

It depends on your skills, generally. I know someone who's a pretty decent chef, working their way up to a professional chef. If I'm not mistaken, the pay per hour is somewhere around $21.00. Of course this varies, and it can surpass this. They started out getting around $10.00 an hour, I think. Hope this helps. :)

Runs the gamut from minimum wage to high dollars. Depends entirely on training, experience, notoriety and talent. You have to work your way up in the business.

There's a big difference between a cook and a chef.
It all depends on your training, expertise and where you are employed.
