again check as much as you can on the Internet.
they are very loyal pets but do realize for the most part they are a one person dog meaning they will pick the owner over you picking the pup. For example if you get now you may pick out a pup but the pup may pick you mom or your sister over you.
Do not fall for the ones that advertise the toy, miniature or teacup they are basically names for runts that aren't the healthiest.
They are in the toy group and AKC standard says a chi shouldn't be over 6 pounds. I would go for a little larger one as they do break bones easily NEVER leave a pup unattended on furniture such as a couch or bed. They can fall and get seriously injured and the small dogs can actually die from a fall that big.
They can be yappy but if you break it from the beginning they can be great. Some say they are hard to break but I have never had any problems with the ones I have had.
I do strongly suggest crate training so study up on that as well.
If you can I also strongly doing dog obedience by 3 months old.
They can be protective and often over protective so make sure you get them out for plenty of socializing.

they make great pets as I have two of them
but remember they are yappy dogs meaning they bark at every noise they hear... they are very high strung..& they want attention 24/7 so be prepared ..& have fun with your new pet
