I am a responsible person with excellent credit. My employer accidentally didn't auto-deposit my check and I wrote out my bills like usual because I didn't know this at the time. My credit card payment bounced and my Chase/Bank One APR went from 8% to 30%.

My employer won't write to Chase/Bank One to verify they accidentally didn't auto-deposit and Chase/Bank One won't change this for 8-10 months.

I can change this over to another card but I wanted to know if there's any recourse for this using a non-profit service or federal credit counseling. I'm more upset that I have been a Chase/Bank One customer for most of my life with excellent credit and they would do this to a person for 1 problem.

I understand legally they have the right but is there any other way to report this since they are not willing to work with me on this?

They actually did the same thing to me stating that I had made 6 late payments over the life of the card...the one that I had for 8 years! 6 late payments in 8 years! Yep, I was really mad, they basically said too bad, so sad. So, I filed a complaint with the BBB as well as one with the FTC. I got a phone call from their corporate office within a few days and they agreed to lock my card in at a low APR as long as I didn't continue using it (which I have NO desire to have an account with them) and make all future payments on time. It shows on my credit that I requested to close the account and I just pay a monthly fee until the card is paid off...which won't be too much longer. If you go this route, I HIGHLY recommend that you check your account on the Internet often. I haven't received a paper statement since and corporate just can't seem to figure out why...imagine that. I just make sure I check the pay date every month and make my payment on time.
Good luck & BTW, they are all like that now...the customer is not nearly as important as the all mightly dollar.

You are right that they have a right. The fact is they are using it. Not good for customer relations. I am finding out that they don't care.
I ended up leaving the bank. Even then I had a major problem. If you leave make sure that they do not allow any automatic payments go through. One company did not change their records. Even though the account was closed they charges my account and after fighting I ended up paying a lot more than I should have. I do not think that they are not working for the customer satisfaction
I had a friend close out the account she thought and it wasn't closed. The bank manager didn't even get into trouble.
I have a few friends who can not stand Chase/Bank one.
I hope you change. Just make sure everything is in writing.
A few of us don't trust them
Good luck

Your Chase card will work fine. If it is a credit card don't use it at ATM's, use a debit card.

Never mind Chase -- they have every right to do what they did BUT I would take issue with the fact that your employer will not write a letter to them to notify them that it was their mistake and not you being irresponsible with your finances. I wouldn't take no for an answer...you have rights as an employee and you can bet your A** if that happened to me -- my employer would be writing a letter. 30%!! are you kidding me??
