Can you tell me how to make marinara sauce from scratch. I tried so many times but it just comes out sour or it just doesn't taste right.
Thanks.

HOMEMADE MARINARA SAUCE

5 tomatoes, chopped
2 (15 oz.) cans tomato sauce
1 can tomato paste
1 onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 sm. bell pepper, diced
12 mushrooms, sliced
2 carrots, sliced
2 sm. zucchini, sliced
1 tbsp. soy sauce
1/4 c. red cooking wine
2 bay leaves
1 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tbsp. basil
1/2 tbsp. oregano
1/4 tsp. sage

Add all the ingredients together (except for the dry herbs) into a large pot on the stove. Simmer for about 2 hours. Add the dry herbs and simmer for another 1 to 2 hours. Use sauce on spaghetti, in lasagna, or with any other Italian dishes.

When I make marinara I use the following:

1 28 oz can of good tomato sauce
1 15 oz can of diced tomatoes with basil
1/4 cup good olive oil
1 yellow onion, diced
2 cloves garlic, minced
3 T dried Italian Herbs
1/2 cup chopped oregano
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
1 T kosher salt
1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes
1/2 cup good red wine
2 T brown sugar

Saute onion and garlic in a little olive oil until translucent. Add the rest of the ingrediants and simmer for one hour or until thickened. Adjust salt and pepper to taste and serve with your favorite pasta.

This is my grandmother's recipie:

4 cans of Tomato Paste (4 oz think they are)
4 Lg Cans Crushed Tomatos (the one just bigger than a regular size can)
1 lg can of Tomato Puree

Onion, Garlic, Olive Oil, Basil, Oregano, and salt and pepper to your liking.

Sautee the onion and garlic in the olive oil till its cooked a bit then dump the 4 cans of paste into it and cook up the paste a bit...once the paste is kinda lose-like, add your crushed tomatoes and puree. If desired, put a little water to make the sauce a hare thinner. (I usually add just enough to rinse out the cans, but don't fill the can to the top.)

Cover and keep stirring...add basil, salt, pepper, enjoy!!!!
