I've been eating about 25g of carbs immediately after, but I'm not sure if that's a good system, because as I understand it carbs are used after a workout to fuel muscles. My objective is fat-loss.

If you're only going 5 miles, you don't really need anything. Maybe some water to catch back up? An apple or a banana?

5 miles isn't going to take you anywhere near glycogen depletion, so its more a matter of taking the edge off so you don't pig out at dinner.

Carbs before a workout, Carbs and protein after.
You need carbs to fuel muscles for the energy to get through your workout. In order to feed muscles for growth after a workout you need protein as well as carbs. Whey protein is a good source. I mix it with a banana and berries in a shake. Great protein injection. Those fruit carbs will replenish your muscle glycogen. Low calorie and not too heavy.
