it is a female kitten and for the first couple of days she was very playful. I have had to tap her nose (lightly) a few times for her being bad and i also gave her a bath yesterday and now all she does is try to find somewhere to hide and sleep. Is this natural or is she scared of me?

I used flea and tick shampoo for kittens and I also feed her regularly, I also rub her and let her fall asleep on me several times a day but in the end she always runs and hides after a while

The bath, most likely distressed her!

Why do people insist on giving their cats baths?

A vet told me a long time ago that cats do NOT need baths - only on the rare occasion that they have landed in something nasty in the garden or thereabouts do they require bathing. They naturally wash themselves. They are very good at bathing themselves!

Although hiding is a natural thing also, (they will go in the most obscure places, but come out when they are hungry), she might well have gone away to get away from you, because of the bath!.

its very natural dont tap her on the nose just pick her up and put her on the bed then she'll settle in quicker my kitten still does that its settling now and getting to know my other cats and it can only settle in a year and over it'll stop doing bad things and it'll want to get hugged alot and stroked alot and wont want feeded alot it'll be able to go out once its had the operation if you have a nice surrounding where it cant get trapped and at least someones in the house to look after it while your out it'll be ok there scared of baths they usually wash them selves and get other cats to wash em for it my kitten just sits there listening to my music and sleeping on the bed so ill suggest just doing as said above

Poor little thing is trying to get used to a new environment and you hit her on the nose and douse her in water. Think about it. Cats don't respond to being hit or tapped as you say and they surely don't want a bath. Unless she gets into something nasty, she bathes herself well enough. She may come around but she's scared.

Sounds like too much stress from the bath. If she's not eating she should go to the vet.

I would avoid disciplining her through physical contact. even though you are tapping her lightly, she may begin to associate human contact and negative behavior. Using a stern voice to correct her should be sufficient enough.

she's just upset that u gave her a bath, when i have to give my cat a bath, he may stay out of contact from me for a while but he'll come back to you once you try warming up to him again. basically, i'd try feeding her, that's what always gets my cat's trust back again, or mayb just let her come up to you and let her smell your hand, she'll come back to you eventually, trust me.

What did you wash her with? If you didn't use cat shampoo you made have made her ill. If you didn't use cat shampoo you should take her to a vet.
