A lot of the questions and answers in R&S seem to be insulting toward others. Some point out a false inconsistency (straw men are quite common here), others resort to direct confrontation (even to the point of ad hominem) and still others ramble incoherently.

No one "group" is innocent in this forum and precious few individuals make a consistent effort to provide honest answers. I admit to my times of flippancy but am striving to add honest discussion to even the most careless question (I'll probably still have the occasional relapse so hold off any hypocrisy charge - I admit it freely here)

Fewer still, it seems, are the questions that truly seek information in R&S. I'll try to add to that, as well.

So let's hear it. Should courtesy and genuine inquisitiveness be given a chance to reign here in R&S?

Good responses. Though I am somewhat disappointed by a few displaying cynicism.

I don't know any Christians who "cram their own beliefs." I've seen atheists and other non-believers do that in R&S, but Christians only answer questions as openly and honestly as we can.

i think that the Scriptures are the be attentive to God and do spend time on a daily basis interpreting and interpreting. i'm no longer "continuously criticizing different ideals different than my very very own". As a individual who beleives contained in the easy truths printed and taught contained in the Bible, i'm grateful that God has led me to the fact. If i'm able to help yet another who's in actual fact, and that i do propose in actual fact finding for the fact, than i'm basically obeying Jesus' comission to "flow ye subsequently and instruct all countries"...(Matthew 28:19). in spite of the shown fact that this not at all skill i visit beat somebody over the pinnacle with my Bible, or in communication proceed to speak approximately something whilst a individual is disinterested or of course does not choose to speak approximately God. i haven't any doubt that Jesus Christ is who he claims to be, so I continuously attempt and shop the concentration on him, even whilst others would desire to objective and divert interest faraway from his assertion of being "the way, the fact and the existence" and that "no guy cometh unto the father yet by using me"(John 14:6). God does not lie so retaining any communication concerning christianity in keeping with what God says in His be conscious, in basic terms seems logical. (Psalm 12:6-7, a million Cor 2:14)

Funny how the first person who answers your question responds by saying " we Christians don't do that' LOL. Listen. I have a religion. I have never talked, asked or questioned about it here on the R & S. I like to come read what other people got going on. My belief is that if you truly belive 100% in your faith, (even if that means praying to a bologna sandwhich) there is no reason for you to get ill here. bottom line. And yes, i have seen what you have seen too. Give it a chance! And know the difference between an opinion and a fact. Its ok to have opinions. Its not okay to self-righteously say your opinion is a fact. Cheers!

I think the flippancy is necessary ...can u imagine people being only serious here ????? BORING! I honestly dont get how people can be *serious* about myths..it truly baffles me. My Qs are often about the psychological components of belief

courtesy and genuine inquisitiveness would be nice..but not very likely

It's always better to treat people kindly...well, unless they're running screaming at you with an axe, then that needs some massive immediate attention!
One needs to try and agree to disagree, especially in matters of religion. Gods above and Below, we're never going to agree on the Name of the Divine so how about a truce! Christians beleive in their God, Muslims in theirs, Paganii in their Pantheons etc.... and we'll all agree to disagree and be polite about it....

And if you beleive that, I've got some land to sell you in Wisconsin......

It would be a nice idea, though wouldn't it. It would.

It is better to treat everyone with respect and courtesy .
People are members of what is supposed to be a CIVIL Society .
Religious beliefs are out there to be followed if one CHOOSES to do so .
Religion is not law ,mandatory or even provable .
Religion is the last thing one needs to push .
Society needs to fix the enviorment ,find peaceful solutions to problems and promote tolerance within our society.
PEACE ,would be nice !!!!!

It is human nature to be defensive about ones beliefs. The ruckus in R&S will probably never calm down. It is unfortunate.

Yes, there is a lack of courtesy and respect on this site. Since you admit to your part in it, will you be willing to totally give it up? It appears not. So, what's the rant all about? I give respect when it's given and information when I feel I have something to offer. I join in on a joke when I'm bright enough to tell that it's not a serious question...I need to work on that because sometimes the sarcasm just does not come through in this medium.

Good point- but alot of people here have no R & S, and use this forum only to belittle people of faith. They have no real questions, they ask ignorantly blasphemic questions just to try to get under peoples skin, then point at them for retaliating, calling them a hippocrite. Untill all of the trolls go back under thier bridge, I am afraid that we are not getting anywhere.

The majority of the people try to act like respectful adults. It is a small few (on both sides) that can't see past their bigoted small-mindedness. Then there are those (on both sides) that are just too sensitive.

Yep. Mature discussions do not occur on here very often...seems like we are back in Junior High and High School...."My father said that your father is"
