First, you must have the specs to run Vista. Like everyone said, your system must have sufficient memory - at least 1Gb of RAM. I would recommend 2 Gb, if you also intend to run memory intensive programs/games.
I bought a new PC last month; C2D E4300 with Vista Home Premium equipped. Runs really fast and looks cool too, with Aero enabled. However, there are some nasty issues I have had personally ran into:
1) Even with Windows Firewall + Defender, my explorer.exe was easily corrupted. Everytime I boot the machine, I have to start windows explorer manually via task manager. Fixed by full reinstallation.
2) Windows User Acct control makes it a hassle to copy/cut/paste/move files. So many prompts! You can disable it, but protection mode turns off!
3) Conflict with programs. I have an ati video card and installed ATItray tools. My Internet explorer loads at a snail's pace! Closed AtiTray Tools, and it runs completely smooth! Wow.
4) Conflict with CD/DVD drivers. I installed InstantCD/DVD and daemon tools, a virtual cd program, and my DVD writer/reader freezes when reading/loading cds! Uninstalled the programs, and it works fine!
Anyways, the bottom line is:
It really depends on you and what you intend on doing with Vista, that determines if it's worth it. However, you must understand that Vista is going to replace XP sooner or later. Besides, I heard there will be a Service Pack coming out that'll fix a lot of common problems.
If I were you, I'd upgrade. You bought Vista Ultimate - might as well enjoy it!

The answer to that depends a lot on the specs of your computer. Vista is a memory hog compared to XP. It requires much more memory, processing power and hard drive space. If your computer is only a medium to low end computer, it will have problems running Vista.
At this time, no one is yet writing programs or making hardware that ONLY works on Vista. So there is no immediate need to go to Vista to be able to do....whatever.
But it has some nice features and improved security. Given another year to 18 months, there will be a need for Vista to running certain programs, etc. At that point (and by then MS should have released a Service Pack to resolve any of the issues in Vista) you would want to upgrade.
But at this point, it is optional. If your XP is working fine, I would not mess with it...yet.

To be truthful regardless of if it incredibly is a solid deal get it Vista isn't all that undesirable. I geared up a working laptop or workstation with Vista and have not had any compatibility issues yet. For the needs your declaring it is going to artwork merely superb. I run Adobe layout top type CS3 in this gadget which contains Photoshop. i could make confident this computing gadget has a minimum of two Gig of mem or a minimum of is upgradeable to that.

Oh YES Janelle ...Oh Yes...! Don't give up your XP!
..was it running badly?...if so, just reformat and have service pack 2.
Vista definitions:
. A distant view or prospect, especially one seen through an opening, as between rows of buildings or trees.
n awareness of a range of time, events, or subjects; a broad mental view.
....It really needs some work..it needs a service pack or something...it's like the first edition of 98!

If you pc is capable of running vista then yes it is worth it, it's the new system we have to get used to it.
I know a lot have slagged it off but remember they did the same with 98, ME, and XP when they first came out.

Hell no! I hate it!
It makes the computer run slower because it takes more power to run than does Windows XP. It is a poor duplication of Apple's Tiger OSX.

Save yourself the hassle and switch to an Apple computer. Much easier to use, safer with viruses and you can still purchase Microsoft Office.
