I need to be able to fire my slave strobes without having to use my on camera flash. My manual says I can not use a hot shoe, so what do I do? Any help would be appreciated!

The manual says you can't use a hot shoe adapter because it wont be TTL, the flash wont talk to the camera. That being said you can get a hot shoe adapter to work, it will just fire the slaves and your camera wont know how to compensate for them. You will have to work in manual mode, but if you have slaves this probably wont be an issue for you.

At least this is my understanding with the XTi. I didnt have this setup but when I took the free classes at Kits Camera (please dont laugh too hard), thats what the instructor used. $700 XTi camera with kit lens, $100 background and a $1500 slave flash kit, go figure.

Does the Rebel XT have a PC sync connector for strobes on the side?

Check out the possibility of the Quantum FreeXwire, and having the possibility of wireless TTL too.
