I really want to hear opinions from real people--- especially if you are an accountant, or work in HR!!

Thanks! Here are the details.

Firm is a public accounting firm, small to mid-sized, estimated CPA's on staff is 12-20. Location is downtown Milwaukee, WI. Benefits, besides the typical package of healthcare etc... include 100% paid parking, 3 weeks vacation, 3 personal days, and every other Friday off during slow season. The position requires 2300 (billable?) hours per year. 55 hours per week during tax season.

The applicant is a recent college graduate, with a 4-year degree in accounting. CPA candidate, ready to sit for the exam in 6 months. Has 3 years internship experience in the field-- but no public accounting experience. GPA of 3.3/4.0, with 150 credits.

What are your thoughts on Salary for this position? Low end? High End? Where are your drawing your conclusions from?

Instead of going to a website, contact the local chamber of commerce. See if someone has done a wage survey in the local area. You might even be able to find this at a local library. There is one done in my area, and the data are excellent.

The salary/remuneration for a particular job is the market value for a particular profession and designation at the city/town where the office is located. Job postings at websites like Monster, Yahoo HotJobs and Careerbuilder carry information about salaries. The Govt Dept of Labor, (www.bls.gov) Bureau of statistics has information about median salaries for different professions and details of additional compensation offered. Other online resources are salary.com and payscale. Your salary will also depend on your educational qualification and how you handle your career.
