I once heard that it was a sin to commit wrong against people of one's own faith, but not wrong to do it to others outside one's religion. What do you think about this?

It's a "sin" to do wrong to anybody regardless of whatever faith/religion/belief system they have.

What does religion has to do with wrongdoing? I think that’s the most revolting notion I’ve ever heard. No wonder why people of one religion hate so much people of an other. Wrongdoing is a deed that affects the wrongdoer, the victim and society in general. It brings about havoc and social disintegration in a vicious cycle with no ending. The most vile feelings and thoughts become the focus point of people’s life and retribution the utmost act even in the case that offence is considered as well deserved…
It is so sad that religion is behind every twisted and immoral concept distorting humankind’s ethics foundation.

Of course it sin to do wrong against someone of another faith--or non faith. In the case of Christians, Jesus didn't die for just Christians---He died for the world. And 1 John tells us that if we say we love God but don't love His creations we're liars.

I know it's wrong but I'll speak up for the hypocrites. We should treat our christian brethren and sisters with love and respect. Of course we know the Jews killed Christ and when bad stuff happens to them it's God's work. Mormons and Jehovah Witnesses aren't real christians and worship the false Gods, so anything you can do to humble them can turn bad into a greater good.

It is non-virtuous, and incorrect action to cause harm and suffering to ANYONE, religious or not. All sentient beings wish to be happy.
