The owner of the place I work at is a real jerk. How can I put my two weeks notice in without ticking someone like that off too much, or letting me get yelled at?

Ive been a very reliable, honest, no complaints worker.

you can't control him so don't think that you are going to be able to keep him from getting mad. He is going to get mad no matter what. if you want to put your 2 weeks notice then go ahead and do it. What can he do to you. You don't work for him after 2 weeks.

Well, if you are giving your notice to leave, you are being courteous, as most companies now have employee-at-will clauses, which they can end your employment just as quickly for no apparent reason.

It is in your best interest to give him a written two-week notice handed to him asap.

However, if you had a padded bank account and did not have to worry about money to pay your bills for a year or two, and you just couldn't stand to be there another minute, then I would just leave.

Your boss has issues that don't have to do with you.

Screaming at employees is very unprofessional.

I once declined a job offer because I found out the person that I would report to yelled at people when he felt like it.

You have to stand firm that you do not deserve to be yelled at and won't work under those conditions. You don't necessarily have to voice it. Since you are leaving this place, you have already come to this conclusion. Good for you!

Don't worry about him.

Unfortunately, he might just drop dead from all that hot air coming out of his ears all of the time.

It's sounds like he has very high blood pressure, Fred Flintstone style.

Best wishes in your new job.

Well, if you are leaving, his being ticked off is his problem, not yours. True enough, your last two weeks may be unpleasant, but your future belongs to you, not a jerky boss. Be prepared though for him to tell you to pack in up immediately- my boss gets so pissed when people submit notice, he sometimes tells them to leave right then and there.....depends of course tho on the workload.

Why would his feelings matter if you were to quit? Giving two weeks notice is courtesy; not required. Doesn't seem that he will be a good reference if you have to walk on egg shells with him. Do like a banana and split.

just don't tell anyone why you are leaving. Write them a letter, express appreciation for the opportunity to work for them, and let them know that you are leaving "to pursue other opportunities".

this isn't a guarantee you won't get yelled at, but it's a gurarantee that they won't have a good reason for it. Besides, you're leaving, so, why worry?
