LSD, although peyote comes in a close second. I would warn people not to use either, however, unless they were in the presence of an experienced user who had thoroughly prepared them in advance for the psychedelic experience. These are not "party drugs," and should never be treated as such. Only when one has the proper "set and setting" can the experience reach its full spiritual potential. As a bare minimum, read "The Joyous Cosmology" by Alan Watts and "LSD: The Problem-Solving Drug" by David L. Solomon. The introduction to Solomon's book by Timothy Leary explains everything in careful detail. People who don't know anything about Dr. Leary put him down, but he was absolutely brilliant, and this may be his best work.

I know its not obvious if you're a tripper but that warm feeling actually made a big difference to my life. I haven't taken it in years but that feeling of warmth and love for others - well that's certainly spiritual if you ask me.

For me it was opium. LSD knocked my socks off and showed me the nature of the singular universe but opium gave me a clearer, more stable connection to communicate with it.
