Can anyone help with the program Excel?? I'm trying to enter the text 1-2 in one of the cells, but it comes up as January 2. How can I turn off this automatic date thing? Thanx so much.

You can enter a single quote first
Example: '1-2

Tancy2411 and Clinky are both right. Either one will do the trick.

The apostrophe before the text tells Excel to evaluate what you enter after the apostrophe as text instead of as a date. Formatting the cell as the Text format will do the same thing.

If you are just entering the text in one cell, use the apostrophe since it is quicker.

If you are going to be entering text like this in multiple cells, then select the range and format the cells in that range as Text before you enter the text.
