tithing is'nt mentioned in any of the Apostle Paul's letters to the christians, also tithing is'nt one of the reqiurements in Acts 15 in the Jerusalem council. I honestly believe that tithing is an Old testament practise, or even a Hebrew practise according to the law
(OT law).

Okay....well, I would have to say that I aree that it is not a requirement, the only requrement to Christianity is slavation through the confession of Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior who was raised on the third dat. There is a widespread idea that tithing is no longer neede after the Old Testament, but we are told that we reep what we sew. So if we sew into God's kingdom and his "storehouse" (the church) then it will come back to us 10-fold. If we were meant not to live by the Principles in the Old Testament don't you think that God would have mentioned something about it through the Apostle Paul, or others, that although it is good to read, the Principles are no longer true. It is true that it is no longer required to tithe to be under the Covenant, becasue we do have Jesus as the untimate sacrifice (tithe, giving...you see a pattern), but the Principle that if you give your best seed (tithing, Jesus' crucifiction, etc.) then it will come back to you TENFOLD!!! Who wouldn't want to do that???

So are you saying that we shouldn't live out the TEN COMMANDMENTS because of our NEW COVENANT. Don't think anyone is going to hell because they don't tithe, but it is still important and needs to be recognized as an important practice in the faith of Christianity.

I also hope that this wasn't something that your local church allowed a sermon to be taught on because this is the kind of thing that tears Christians apart and it's just petty.

I feel that it is a good practise, and God will reward you for it. I can recall many times when a person would withold their tithes from the church and then they had problems in their finances. But when they would tithe again, they would be blessed. I think that God loves a cheerful giver, and if you are going to tithe then do so with a glad heart. I would advise you to continue tithing whether you feel it is required or not, because you can't outgive God. I hope that this helps, God Bless.

If you are REALLY interested in a full and Biblical exposition on this topic, I would highly recommend having a look at this:

Grace and peace!

EDIT:
Ohhh - and don't let the first paragraph turn you off or away. Arthur Pink can be quite pointed, or even harsh, at times!

And at the bottom left, there is a "Back" button, which will take you back to read part 2, as this link only goes to part 1 on tithing...

When they gave a tenth it was money for the public good.
It was basically taxes. When they asked for a king he required 10% of what ever they had. That we know was taxes. But the apostle Paul was a tent maker by trade and received no wages. That is what has corrupted the Churches.
They work for wages and have to say what pleases the highest contributor. They become rich and powerful and that is why they are preaching.

When they preach because they have a message to tell and get nothing in return not even recogniciation.
But the spirit moves them to preach so they want to be teachers and help people to know about God. Then it is from the heart. then it does some good. I do contribute because they have rent to pay on the building and seats and air condicitoner. But it is enough to cover the expenses of the building. Divided by how many go there.
Some times I give more and sometimes less.
But our church has no paid clergy class and they preach out of the bible and don't care who gets their feelings hurt.
I am trying to be one of Jehovah's witnesses and they have no paid clergy class and I like that. I want to know he is preaching because he has a message to tell not because he is getting paid.

Jesus said Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's. God expects 10% of your income. It's all His anyway, so give Him back the 10%. Trust me, I know from experience, to not pay tithes is to steal from God. Tithing is meant for use in the house of God either to support ministries, the poor, or relife aide, but God does require it still today. You need a Strong's Concordenence so that you can look up things in the Bible better too. It is mentioned in Luke and Hebrews.

It doesn't matter what your religion - or non-religion - circulation (not tithing) is a GOOD thing. And you can circulate anywhere - it need not be at your church unless you want them to do good deeds with your $$ for you - and you know they will.

Think about how you feel when you give a gift. Think about how you feel when you receive a gift. It's nice isn't it? That's circulation. We should all do it. I think it's the way things work best. Receive - and give.

Here's an analogy of someone who doesn't believe in circulation or how natural and perfect it is. Someone who only receives:

Take a breath in......

Doesn't work so well - huh. Circulation is natural. Do it!!!

Sweet Pea tithing is very important. The bible clearly states that in Malachi 3: -12. Will a man rob God? Yet Ye have robbed me. But Ye say, Wherein have he robbed thee? In tithes and offerings. Ye are cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, even this whole nation. Bring all your tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out blessings, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. And I will rebuke the devourer four your sake, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, said the Lord of hosts. And all the nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the Lord of hosts. See the word never lies, when you do tithe you will be very prosperous. God Bless1

You're right about it being specifically mentioned in the OT. But Paul does refer to giving. Money is written about a lot especially in the NT. Probably because what you do with your riches reveals what's in your heart. Remember Cain and Able? That was before there was any law. The question you must ask yourself is why do you feel the money God gives you is all yours? Your money will be good only for as long as you live here. What you do with it may determine your reward in eternity. You are given an amount of talent to earn riches and that comes directly from God. You need to change your outlook about money. Why do you think you have it? For yourself? That question is answered in all of the NT, especially by Jesus in many of his parables.

As Christians the Bible tells us we're not JUSTIFIED by the law, but this doesn't mean we don't have to observe it and apply it's principles to our lives (please read Romans 3:21-31; Galatians 3:1-25, ). Tithing in the Jewish culture was a representation of showing God appreciation for what He has provided. God doesn't need anything from us because everything we have ultimately came from Him anyway. Though I don't think "tithing" is mentioned in the Bible outside of the Jewish tradition-Paul (who was a pharisee converted by God to minister to and bridge the gap between the Jews and the Gentiles) and others do speak of the importance of giving to support believers and the advancement of the Kingdom of God. Tithing/offering is a way to give a small "thanks" to God. It's also a small way of saying that we recognize that everything comes from God and we are willing to use everything we have to bring Him glory. In Luke 12:32-34, Jesus tells us that the things we invest our "treasure" in tells us where our true desires are. Money is one of these treasures. People spend money on things they value. I feel that tithing/offering is a small way for me to show God that I appreciate what He has blessed me with by me giving some of it back toward His Kingdom. Just remember that God is concerned with the heart more than the act/outward appearance (I Samuel 16:7, Proverbs 17:3). Jesus talks about the pharisees and others who tithe and give money but they do it for the wrong reasons or without the right intentions (Matthew 23:23, Luke 11:42, Matthew 6:1-4, Mark 12:41-44, Luke 21:1-4). Luke 18:9-14 is one of my favorite examples of this. Look at what the proud Pharisee lists among his "accomplishments" in verse 12-tithing, but ultimately Jesus says in verse 14 that this man is NOT justified by God because his motives were wrong. It's not about the action, it's about the heart behind it. I think we give tithing more credit to OURSELVES than it's worth. I tithe and give an offering not to justify myself before God, but I do it in hopes that God could use the money along with every other thing He has blessed me with (tangible and intangible) to bring Him glory. Think about it this way...the money that we have has a very short-term and finite purpose, but the things we use it for could potentially have an eternal purpose by providing support and other things that could lead people to know and grow in Christ here on earth-which ultimately will bless them for all eternity. Please read Luke 16:1-15 (with special emphasis on 10-15). Pray about it, and I trust that God will direct you in what He wants you to do. God bless, and bless God!
