Well, the bible a book written by MAN, not god. And the bible is very, very, inaccurate. I was a Christian for over 20 years (am not now) and studied many religious texts. The bible, essentially, is a made-up book with some old borrowed pagan stories mixed in with a few (very few) facts and some other fictionalized accounts.

In fact, biblical scholars (ACTUAL Christian scholars) did a study and determined that Jesus did not say about 80% of what they claimed he said in the bible.

Science is right, religion is (very often) delusional and goes against common sense. I'm not saying there isn't some god or mysterious force out there.. no one knows. But the Abrahamic religions (Muslim, Christianity, Jewish) do not make any logical sense.

Remarkably science will tell you that civilisation and writing themselves are not much older than 6000 years old. A remarkable coincidence there don't you think? You need to know that the scientific viewpoint has much evidence to support it and that you need to learn that stuff to be able to cope with your future here on earth. When you are more mature you will have the mental tools to decide for yourself such fundamental questions. For now learn all you can about the scientific view without allowing others to use it as a means of slating your religious beliefs. This probably means keeping your religious views to yourself.
On the whole I would say that is a good thing, your religion is and should be your own affair and nothing to do with anyone else.

it is very very simple. the bible is a load of lies and fiction. However 15,000yrs old has a little thing called evidence to back it up. The earth is a lot older than 6000 years, as is man kind. Try to realize that the bible is just a book made up by some guys about 1500 years ago, science has PROVED the age of ice age man at 15000yrs. Sorry to say this but your religion is telling you lies, like most of them really.

Historically every time that science and religion have disagreed it has turned out that science is right.

The Earth is not flat as religion claimed.
The Sun does not go around the Earth as religion claimed.
There was no global flood as religion claimed.
Lightning is not a supernatural act, as religion claimed.

The current big disagreements are the age of the Earth:
Religion 6000 years Science 4.5 billion years.

and the development of different species:
Religion Created as is Science Evolved.

Religion has a book that was written by nomadic sheep headers in the late stone age. Derived from oral history, edited and transcribed, several times.

Science has thousands of facts from independent sources that can be reproduced and verified.

I would not bet that the religious view will hold sway if I were you, to date it is batting a big zero.

This is a question that will rear its ugly head time and time again in your lifetime. It has been scientifically proven that man has been on this planet an extremely long time. But as to how long that has been is really speculation. Carbon dating is not an exact science and can only go so far back in time so it is left largely to guess work and what links a particular item with another to get a date. Religion is a very strict doctrine there is only black and white and no grey areas where you can discuss and argue. If your religion says we have only been here for 6,000 years then you will have to believe that, until you are of an age when you start to question that. Neither method has been totally proven yet, but it is logical that we have been here for more than 6,000 years. We only have our assumptions to go on, so you stick to what you know.

I think you belong to a sect that takes Genesis as being true in every word.

I have always questioned the God created the world in seven days because seeing he is and was there for eternity, why did he need to hurry. This does not mean he could not have done it just means he did not

This in no way undermines the lessons of Genesis after all it is a good indication of seven of the stages of creation etc

It shows the power a woman can have over a man etc

Never take anyone's word for anything! Do your own research and decide on your own... Question the church you belong to, question the method that arrived at an age of 15,000 years for the ice man... and decide where the truth lies... What are the facts from BOTH sides of the debate? Questioning is NOT a sign of disbelief in any arena, but a search for knowledge. Pity the person who lacks the strength of conviction to stand up under questioning!

Questions like that convinced me to choose science over religion. (if god created animals on the fifth day and man on the 6th how do you explain millions of years of dinosaurs.) I'm sorry but religion and science don't mix and it is your choice whether to fully believe in science or to keep your faith but accept that the scholars who wrote your religious text didn't know everything, this doesn't have to destroy your faith just acknowledge that although the men who supported your god at the time these texts were written had the facts wrong their faith was true.

Scientists are not sure how far back we have to go and are still looking and investigating the origins of man but a number of religions and the different factions within each different belief keep on telling us that theirs is the truth and the only thing to take notice of. It must be nice to be so sure of facts with only fables to substantiate them.
One thing I would like to say is that when you look at how quickly people are getting worked up by this question is it any wonder so many of the worlds current and past conflicts have been caused by Religion

I agree with John C it`s time to take a look at what religion say`s but look at other theories too not just religion then you can make your own mind up. I am an Athiest and have looked at all angles and evolution is the only thing that makes sense to me. Do some searching and don`t be swayed by what other people say, always keep an open mind....
