Faith is total, unwavering belief, the ultimate form of bias. Someone who has true faith in something (such as the existence of God, as the most common example) holds absolutely no doubt that it is true, they are incapable of accepting any possibility that it might be false. This does not mean that they are incapable of imagining a universe in which the thing is false, it only means that they cannot accept that as being true or even possibly true in our own universe. Faith is the absolute preclusion of any kind of doubt or skepticism as to the truth of whatever it is a person has faith in.

The mechanics of faith are works! Though we are not saved by our works, they are the evidence that we truly have faith.
Anyone can say they have faith and how could one tell if they really do? Their works back up what they truly trust (have faith) in.
Now there are two aspects of Faith:
Spiritual and physical. This verse describes both.
Heb 11:1 Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.
If you look at the words SUBSTANCE and EVIDENCE you see the physical side of faith.
As you look at the words "things hoped for" and, "things not seen" you see the spiritual side.
Both work hand in hand.

When you put a DVD into you DVD player, you are exercising "faith" in the sense that you probably don't know enough about electronics to understand how it works, but you take it for granted that it WILL work, and not catch on fire, because you assume that the engineers who designed it knew what they were doing.
When your doctor prescribes you a medication, you are exercising "faith" when you go down to the drugstore, pop down your money, and take the pill that the doctor prescribed as directed by the instructions on the label, even though you probably don't know enough about biology or chemistry to understand exactly how the medicine is supposed to work, or what it is actually doing to your body. You just assume that the doctor knows what he is talking about, even though you really have little direct proof of his competence, since you don't know his GPA in medical school (he could have been a party animal who barely passed for all that you know).
You exercise faith in God when you trust him enough to simply do what God says, even if his commands seem to be unfair, or make little sense to you at the moment, because you assume that God knows what he is doing, and that he is the expert.

This will fall short but it's the best answer I have.
I have three young children ages 8,4,1. They struggle with many things. I am here to help them because I love them. Sometimes they bring broken toys, situations, problems and stuff to me. I can fix these toys and things or buy them new ones if the situation warrants it. How much I am able to help them depends on how much faith they have in me to handle the situation. Many times Zach my oldest will sit and cry about a problem but won't allow me to help him. Other times they struggle with a toy like a transformer and will not give it to me long enough for me to transform it into whatever they want. Zach does not have a lot of faith in me.
I hope that helps.

To me, having faith in someone means that I'm trusting him or her. For instance, I have faith in God that He knows what's best for me even though I don't always understand His ways. Now, when using the word "faith" in reference to something and not someone, I relate it to having confidence in whatever that "something" may be. For example, I have faith in what God has promised me by acknowledging that His son died on the cross. Unfortunately faith is not something that comes easy to all. There have been many times that I've lacked it. It is then that I call on God to help me continue to have faith in Him and what He's doing in my life.
1Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. 2This is what the ancients were commended for. 3By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.
~Hebrews 11:1-3 (New International Version)~

Sweet Pea let me tell you what faith is. Faith is the substance of things hoped for. So you have to believe even if you don't see it. It is knowing that you will make it even if you don't see a way out. God Bless!

hello,
Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.
so when you have faith in something you have the hope that what your faith in is true and of truth so you follow that path without proof or evidence. God in religion never proved his existence, at all. Yet people base their life and mannerism on the Bible and faith in its words.

to begin with faith w/o works is dead so we must put our belief to work realizing we cant handle all the wiles of this world, understand there is someone higher than us that can...trust Him enough to believe what His word says and follow it...faith begins to expand and grow when given the oppurtunity...God will soon reveal Himself to you and you will began to recognize Him

Believe things no one can prove just because the people who said it are authorative and they promise you it's true.
Like I tell you "hey , you know jesus is on his away"
then you say "Isn't he dead? He died like 2000 years ago" , but i respond with "right I have a book here that says it He's going to come back, right out of those clouds".... and see ....because it's in the bible you should believe it :)

Faith is believing in things unseen. It is knowing that God will make a difference even when it doesn't feel like anything good could happen for you.
