We are moving out of state to pursue job oppurtunities and have been unable to find a rental that will allow our two cats. We will be purchasing a home in six months once we have our new jobs settled, but we need to have our cats cared for until then. Are there any organizations that provide temporary foster care for owners in the eastern North Carolina area? All of our friends and family are either allergic to cats or have too many pets already. We don't want to put them up for adoption, but are running out of options. They are older cats (13 and 14) and I'm afraid they wouldn't be adopted through an agency because of their age. Does anyone have any ideas or information?

Here's the thing: you're talking about two elderly cats, and let me tell you if I had cats that long, they'd be going with me.

Take them where you're going (live a little- you ought to be able to hide a couple cats for a bit-) and do the old "we're finding a place for them" thing...I have had to wait through escrow in an apartment with 5 cats, and if you're clean, quiet, and don't go around advertising that your cats are there
chances are that everyone will just overlook it.
Esp. since it's temporary.

I can't believe you would even consider giving up cats that age.
At least take them with you- and get them other arrangements where they'll be close to you so you can visit, if you are 'scaredy-pants' of the other idea.

At thier age depression is a serious consideration.

Please, please, please see them as family members, and do what's best for them.

Locate a Foster Adoption Caretaker through your local vet or Humane society. These are people that take in animals that are being prepared for adoption to a good home. I'm sure that one of them would gladly house your kitties. My daughter is one in Newnan, GA if you wanted to go by her way on the way to your place. She is currently housing a dog with 9 puppies and 6 kittens that are in her program. Also, my vet has her own kennel/cattery for people that go on vacation. Maybe someone in your area might have a place like that where they babysit for pets. I know that there are dog places like that where you leave your pet and vacation. Some are better than others. The ones around here have community dog times for the good dogs to get together and play together both in an indoor gym as well as outside. One of those has a big cat room for cats. You pet has to have a health certificate to prove it is health at those places but check in your yellow pages for someplace like that. Even go on line to see if one is in your area. I've listed one below for you to check out. They may even be able to help you find someone if they are not in your immediate area. Good Luck.
