Hit CTRL A to select all (or go to Edit > Select All). Then center using the icon like you normally would.
If you want to center everything vertically, go to File > Page Setup, Layout Tab, Vertical Alignment: Center. Make sure "Apply to" is set to Whole Document.

As people have rightly said, through Page Layout. But if you can't be bothered to do that, another way is to bring in a one column one row table, the column width will take up whole page to margins, adjust the row length to be size of page lessmargins, i.e. 29.7cm less 5cm if your top and bottom margins are 2.54cm. take the borders away, use cell alignment to centre verically and horizontally, then you can save as a template to use over and over again. Bring in, type your text or whatever and you have your page perfectly centred. It may seem more complicated than using page layout, but in case you forget how to do it and need to do it regularly, saving as a template is so much easier.

If you are centering vertically on the page then you select all then go to page setup and to the layout tab and go to the drop down and say vertically
If you are centering horizontally select all and use the align center button on the tool bar

Follow these steps. At the menu (File, Edit View etc.) Go to View, Zoom, then select Whole Page... That's about it, enjoy.

It depends on if you are talking centering vertically or horizontally.
Horizontally: If text is already there: Highlight text and then click on center icon in toolbar. It has a couple lines on the icon that are centered. If text is not there, click on this icon first.
Vertically: I think just keep adjusting the top margin until it looks centered.

In Word for Mac you go to Format>Document. There, you will see the option for vertical alignment.

Start typing (any line containing anything). Highlight the area you have just typed. Go to tools, format and you should find it there.
