You should be able to find her a 1 carat diamond of a very good quality. Maybe even slightly larger. (good color, and clarity) Make sure you know what style she likes before going to a jeweler. You don't want to make a purchase that huge and not know what she likes. (i.e. you buy a square diamond and she likes round, etc.)
Do your homework first. learn about what makes a good diamond. GIA or EGL certified and the color system (goes by letters D) and the clarity (VS1 - very slightly included) etc. I believe you can find info out at blue nile and the GIA webpages. Color & clarity should outweigh size. She would much rather a smaller sparkler then a large cloudy yellowy one. I would also seek out an independent jeweler - not a chain. You will get more for the money. If you live anywhere near New York City check out the diamond district. There are some incredible jewelers there who can create anything you want. My ring was custom made for a fraction of what it would have cost at a chain.

Absolutely. With a budget of 6 to 7 thousand, I would strongly suggest you seek a private, experienced, quality jeweler, and work on a custom designed ring. You will get a better quality product by going through a private jewelery shop, than going through Kay Jewelers or any big Mall chain. Jewelry stores in malls have even higher markup on their jewelry, and the stones are not as good quality.

For a 6 to 7 thousand dollar ring, I would strongly suggest going with a flawless stone, no matter what style your girlfriend prefers. You can afford to buy a diamond with no flaws, with that kind of money....and the stone will have more sparkle, will be worth more in the long term, and will be prettier close up. (Too many people decide to go with a huge diamond, and ignore the fact that the rock has a bunch of flaws, making it look great from a distance but cheap up close)

You can also have a wedding band designed to wrap your engagement ring...a ring that will match the style of the engagement ring, and enhance it.

Good luck!

shes a lucky girl go online and google 4 c's of diamonds and educate yourself about what a good center stone really is. then you can go into any store and make sure you are getting the best center stone for your money. if you live anywhere near a tiffany's jewelry store go there and see what your money will buy. why? cause tiffanys only uses the finest stones. you can buy a classic ring there (sigh!) or use that info to buy a fantastic ring from a wholesaler. retail malls sell different things. i am not saying do or dont, i am saying wholesale can get you more. every big city has wholesale jewel marts. research the best ones. it takes a bit of leg work but you can make that money get you a very good GIA certified diamond in a nice setting. go for the biggest center stone, not for a setting with a bunch of small ( not valuable, just gaudy) diamonds in it. classic is best for an engagement ring after 7 years. how romantic.

That would buy a nice rock but why are you spending so much? I spent less than a grand on my girl's ring and she gets compliments all of the time. If you live in a place close to a jewelery district than go there. You can get great deals and the selection is awesome. I didn't want to buy from a mall jeweler because there's a lot of pressure and very little selection. Good luck and don't spend it all friend!

Yes it would be more than enough!! But I would get something cheaper and save the rest for the wedding ring. A big ring is nice but you could go to a wholesaler and get a nice size carat ring for about 2 grand. My fiancee got me a one carat for $1200. Unless she is the type that would want you to spend 6 or 7 grand. Good luck sweetie.

That's a little too much for a ring. You can get very pretty rings for a couple grand. I'd spend a little less on the ring and use whatevers left for the wedding itself.

honestly your could find a really amazing ring for around $500 that isnt cheap looking at all.it really depends on what kind of styles your gf likes. I'd say your best bet is to take her sister (if she has one) or mom (maybe even bestfriend if thy have alot in common)to a jewelery store and have her help you pick one. But to answer your question 6 grand should be Plenty. Good luck :)

Yes, it would buy a nice ring. The most expensive part of the ring is the center stone. You have a better budget than some of the people I know and they got beautiful ring for half that.

It would DEFINITELY buy a good ring, but whether or not you should go spend that much really depends on her style. If she's no fuss, I wouldn't spend that much on it. If she's high maintenance, then maybe you could consider it. Personally, I would be terrified if I had something worth that much on my finger.

You could always spend less on the ring, and save some for a spectacular honeymoon. :)
