oh my gosh that sounds like my kiddo, he is 5 now but at 10 months he was able to crawl in and out of his crib, so we bought him a big boy bed and a side guard to keep him from falling off the side. Getting him to stay in bed will be kind of hard at first but stick to your guns and he will get used to it.

I move my kids when I feel they are independent enough for me to trust alone in the house at night.(The age has ranged from 2 1/2 to 3 1/2) If a child wakes while you're asleep and can move around the house it might present a danger. We have a crib that is very well made and the mattress can be moved deeper into the crib as the child grows. My son that is turning 3 this week is still in his crib. Not one of them has been able to get out of the crib on it's lowest setting. I'll probably move him to a regular bed in about 6 months or so.(He's a wild little booger and I just don't trust him at night yet) I think 10 months is really young to have in a regular bed. You might want to look into a better crib. Good luck :)

When my daughter was 14 months we put a mattress on the floor for about a week then in the bed, she did very well. I was pregnant so we needed the crib for our son, I wanted her to get used to her bed before the baby came. If want to try it go for it, if he might get up at night and hurt his self I would wait.

My son is tall for his age as well. The best thing we ever did was invest in a crib tent. I think 10 months old is way to young to be moved out of a crib. They aren't old enough yet to understand why they need to bed and there are too many dangers if they get out wandering the house at night while everyone is asleep.
We bought our crib tent at Babies R Us.

My oldest came out of the crib at about a year old. My second was out of th ecrib at 9 1/2 months because we couldn't keep him in it. My youngest was out of a crib around 14 months so it will vary. If your child is jumping and trying to climb out, then it's time to get him a big boy bed.
Make sure you keep the side rails on it until he stops rolling but at 10 months, if he is jumping and trying to climb out, get him out of there before he wakes in the middle of the night and takes a spill. He'll do fine in a toddler bed!

The best time to move your little one to a bed is when she starts climbing out of the crib. Although, you can move her sooner but there's really no reason. Once she has outgrown the bed (starts climbing out of it) is a really good time.
It may take a week or so to get her adjusted to her new special bed, but hang in there! Good Luck!

My daughter moved to a toddler bed at 1 years old, but it had the bars on the side incase she rolled. Around 15 or 16 months, we took the bars off.
