When they are always in contact with the floor? You'd think they would have got used to being touched!!

Because of the number of nerve endings on the bottom of the feet. They are there to protect your feet besides provide movement. They let you know about cold, heat, rough, smooth, sharp, dull objects that your feet come into contact with.

Only people with flat feet have contact with the floor all the time. about 95% of people in the world have arches. As for the specific reason why people have ticklish feet..... example: If you were to have your finger poked, you would want to have the side closest to your thumb poked because you have always used it more than the otherside, which in turn dulled your nerve endings.

your brain receives signals FROM the nerve endings in your feet - how they receive them and how 'well' your nerve endings are can effect the result: i.e. intensity of the sensation of being tickled can be amplified (what people consider average or normal that is) if the brain is in full function, and your nerve endings - don't forget your visual is apart of how you feel and are effected as well - all 5 senses effect it.

I tend to wear my shoes and socks so much that my feet are very soft, sensitive and ticklish!
