You haven't been to sorrow or pain or is acquainted with some lately, have you? I hope you don't have to experience what I gone through. Try reading the bible and see if you can get any truth in it. Don't fight it and read with prejudice but test it. God may not be real or faith needs to be proven by your thoughts now but when reality sinks in and you are cornered than you will see or find that alternative way. It is human nature of survival.
Consider yourself bless, for indeed you are, although the truth is yet in you .( No, I am not being sarcastic here. ) You are trying to understand in much difficulties here and there is question that needs to be answer and you are seeking that missing link in your question ( either truthfully or not ) in this forum and that is a thirst for truth.

Once you step out on faith, truth is revealed. The hardest thing for an intellegent mind to comprehend is a truth that doesn't conform to our standards of logic. God has different standards though for logic. You have to admit, there is no sufficient answer anywhere for the orgin of the universe that wouldn't crumble from enough scrutiny. So at the source of everything, we at the very least must accept a truth that we will never fully comprehend.

In my case, I had faith as a child and lost it as I became a skeptical college student pursuing a science degree, then I gained just a tiny amount of faith and from there I saw things happen which led me to have greater faith.

Faith is by definition the belief in something without proof or reason. So, there's no other way to accept something on faith. If you have proof, then it's not faith anymore.

Paul says "Faith comes by hearing, hearing the word of God." Now we have the Bible and tons of archeological evidences that makes it even easier to have faith.
You can't go on Blind Faith, with no criteria or evidence, that won't work. The Apostles never intended that.

I think it's fairly common for people to believe what they wish or fear is true, rather than what is actually indicated by evidence or logic. It's obviously part of human nature, a flaw that we have to recognise and try to suppress in ourselves.

You cannot do it of your own accord, because it is a gift from God. Otherwise, you could boast about how much better you are than others. True believers are humble, due to the fact that they know their faith is not of themselves.

Believing based based on faith is another way of saying that you give in to wishful thinking. Many people rather assume what they wish to be true than see things realistically.

I do not belong to any religion although I do have some beliefs that are most definitely illogical.
I just goes by what makes sense to me, and what feels right. I tried to deny God but he would not let me go.
