Yesterday morning I woke up and had a red mark on my neck, as the day progressed it got bigger and went up behind my ears and my face looks like I have sun burn and am very hot.

This freaked me out so I went to the docs this morn and after just looking at me he said I have something called "strep throat" and gave me some penicillin.
The thing is my throat doesn't hurt. Feels like I have a bit of a lump in it but that's it.

I did a bit of research on the net and nowhere seems to mention the redness...Does anyone know if this is actually a sympton of strep throat?

I feel totally drained and burning up!

I am not saying I don't trust the doctor, I just want to know if anyone else has had these symptoms?

I would trust the doc, take the medication and question his diagnosis if the condition does not get better with treatment.

If you want to know for sure, then your doctor can take a culture from your throat and there will be no doubts if the culture grows the strep bacteria.

Also, be warned that searching the internet for an assessment of your symptoms can be very risky. Some of the information is NOT trustworthy.

See if the antibiotics get rid of the infection and then you will know for sure. Your doctor may have enough experience to know that not all symptoms manifest the same in all illnesses.

I can tell you that I am absolutely positive that you do not have strep throat. In the past 2 months I have had strep throat about 5 times!(tonsils need to be taken out) that is something else and my mom used to get that all the time so don't worry. that doc is sooooooooooooo wrong! strep throat makes your throat hurt soooooooooo bad and makes it swollen. trust me! well, hope i helped! later!=)p.s. also they have to shove a q-tip down the back of your throat and take some saliva sample back there or something and then they will return the results to you if you have strep throat.

Stop having an affair. You obviously dont love your wife because you are prepared to go with someone else. I'm sorry but if you are "in love" then you wouldnt go with other people. You need to think your relationship through because having an affair just breaks hearts and in the end turns out as chaos. Your wife must have caught an STI off of you (sexually transmitted infection). Before you had sex with this "girl" did you have sex with anyone else WITHOUT a condom? If you did then your wife got the STI off you and you have to tell her because she could get seriously ill if it is not treated so take her to the doctors and tell her she needs it checked. And the condom probably broke. Your wife is going to find out that you had sex with someone else cause you gotta tell her that you think she might have caught it off of you and shes going to want to know where YOU got it from. so tell her the truth. get yourself checked as well because that means you probs have it. i'm answering your question for your wifes benefit because STI is a nasty virus and she can do way better if your just going to go having affairs. Your wife may also just have an irritation of the genital area , tell her she needs to go to the doc anyway.

A doctor can't diagnose with strep throat unless he takes a culture swab of your throat. That is the test they all do before diagnosing. I suggest finding a new doctor if he diagnosed by just looking. This doesn't sound right to me.

trust the doc. The internet is not a very reliable source for medical diagnosis. More and more ppl are relying on it rather than they're doctor. Just remember youre doctor is a trained professional and anyone can make a website.
Try the meds and see if they work. If not bring your concerns to your doc.
hope ya feel better.

Okay, I'm not a doctor but I've had strep before and when i have it, the inside of my neck and my tonsils swell, also, it hurts to swallow. I've never had visible reactions on my skin, though, so i would guess you don't have strep

Are you sure the Doctor didn't say streptococcus virus? That can manifest itself anywhere in the body.

See if the penicillin kicks it out. If not, you may need something else as streptococcus is really resistant to a lot of antibiotics.

get another doctor's opinion...who says you HAVE TO take one doctor's word for your illness?
