I'm a 20 year old folk musician and I'm thinking about moving up to New York City. Are there any coffee shops or bars or open mic nights that are pretty accepting of indie folk music? And does my being 20 hurt things? Thanks for your help!

There are a couple of places on Fourth Avenue in Park Slope Brooklyn and in Brooklyn Heights. Also check out Williamsbourgh Brooklyn, a lot of creative folks there, I'm sure there must be music clubs there too.

Williamsburg. If you're a new musician, Williamsburg is the place to be. It's the new Greenwich ie you can afford it and it's an artist's haven. Being 20 doesn't hurt, most of the people in Williamsburg are in their 20s.

Dozens. The Sidewalk Cafe is the biggest one...there are already thousands of "struggling muscians" here, what's one more....don't expect to make any money
