I worked for the DMV for almost 2 years and you must have your social security card changed first. Once you have your new card back then go get your driver's license changed. You can get something from SSI to show that you changed it, but I recommend to wait until you get the card. DMV checks SSI system to see if they have changed it yet and alot of times they have not completed the application and DMV turns you away. Don't waste your own time. Get your card then go to the DMV with new card and marriage certificate, and old drivers license.

Congrats on your marriage.

I think you have to do the social security card first. In my state, ohio, you need your SS card to get an ID, and when I changed the spelling of my name, I had to get a new social security card before I could get a new id.

Change the social security card, then the drivers license. Don't forget to change your name on any credit cards you may have, on all papers wherever you work and if you are still in college, any papers with them.

Social Security card. You'll need that to change your driver's license. Once your name is changed with the social security office, it's legally considered to be your new name.

Change all the things the other Answerers said, plus, carry with you a copy of your marriage certificate everywhere you go. I had to present mine at the oddest times. Even paying by check at the grocery store. If by any chance the names don't match, that certificate will be needed. After all the names on everything are the same, you don't have to carry it anymore.

Probably your SS card because when you go in to get your license changed they will keep the old one (at least in my state).

You need to take a copy of your marriage license, your birth certificate and your ID.

You will need to change your bank account, credit cards and other bills.

You need to change your social security first then the drivers license. That's what I did.

When changing your name, start with your driver's license and then your Social Security card. Many companies and organizations will have difficulty working with a marriage certificate. They are just not used to it. But they will not question a license or Social Security card. It will be easier to change your record with many places if you have a license or Social Security card with your new name on it first.

You need to change your social security card since most states will require it to change your license...also don't forget insurances, registrations, bills (cell phone, household, etc) loans, all your paperwork at work for payroll and insurance (this will also require new social security card) and any other agreements, contracts or bills that have your maiden name on them

I believe that you have to change the SS card. The best bet is to check with the sate you live in. In Ohio i had to change my SS card and then my drivers license.
